Default "The Coming War on China " documentary premiers this week-end

Documentary filmmaker John Pilger posits that the massive US military build-up of land and sea forces in Asia and the Pacific is preparing for assault on China . Additionally , he states that this dangerous and provocative shift is being under reported by the media.

Here's a less sensationalist and more informative youtube clip.

This worthless rubbish was aired on ITV last week.
It comes from a so-called journalist who long ago lost any credibility when, in his determination to oppose 'western imperialism' he defended Saddam Hussein against the world's greatest enemy -the USA- having previously supported Slobodan Milosovic as the real victim of the war that followed the break-up of Yugoslavia. A journalist for whom truth is not so much an elastic concept as an irrelevant nuisance this documentary will tell you the evil American Empire wants to shut down China's access to oil and gas even though there is already an oil pipeline stretching hundreds of miles into China from Siberia, a second pipeline and a gas pipeline to follow. He says China is encircled by US military bases whereas his own map shows no such thing but does point to bases that have existed since the Cold War placed the Korean Peninsula at the core of a confrontation with the 'Northern Tier' of the USSR and the People's Republic of China. Even Bruce Cummings says China is 'surrounded' which makes you wonder what he and Pilger know about the geography of Northern China.

Needless to say Pilger then walks us through all of the crimes that the USA has perpetrated against humanity that apparently nobody other than Hitler has been able to match in modern history. Is it any surprise that this jackass has praised both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump as 'straight talkin' guys' with in Trump's case (if you can believe it) no links to the old venal order that has attempted to rule the world since like, whenever.

If it were not such an insult it would be comical to think of Pilger as a 'left-wing' journalist given the vicious murderers and slayers of democracy he has claimed were 'victims' of the Evil Empire. What he cannot stomach about China is that this enormous country has joined the capitalist club, much as the Vietnam which he is obsessed with prefers markets to central planning. Rather than turn on his old comrades, he paints a doom-laded picture of China and Vietnam duped into submission by the Yankee Imperialists and their neo-liberal heaven, and if they don't bow down, they will be destroyed.

As for the nuclear option, yes indeed there were nuclear tests in the 1950s and not just the wicked west, the USSR also did them, and the Russia of his admired Putin used a nuclear material to murder Alexander Litvinenko in London, but as Pilger argues Russian action in eastern Ukraine is a self-defence against neo-Nazis and there is no credible evidence that the Russians or their mates shot down the Malaysian Airline Flight 17 so he claims smears are being substituted for the truth but is rarely capable of offering any himself.

It is possible to be 'on the left' and argue that the State should step in when markets fail; that the gap between rich and poor should be as small as possible; that peace is better than war and democracy more likely to prevent war than dictatorship. And so on, but for Pilger reared on a diet of Stalinism and bogus revolutionary waffle, the day-today business of politics is just too dreary compared to the earth-shatteriing conspiracies taking place under our noses.

Here is a critique of Pilger worth reading-
