Not all exposure is bad exposure Wendy and signing up to an exclusive contract in this day and age, when websites are making less and less, only makes sense to those holding the contract. Kimber & BJ are exceptions (and I don't believe they signed any contracts but chose to work only on select projects, something I'd advocate any model to do) in that they were internet stars before they had their websites.
When a new model could make in her initial shoots, $10-$20k yet isn't able to do that because of a contract, it's unlikely that the same return will be made on her website profit simply because she hasn't done those shoots. Certainly in relatively untested models this is high risk and I would suggest any model look at the motivation and bigger picture behind anyone desperate enough to have to lock a model in exclusively - because it's not the models best interest they have at heart.
Girls in this specific niche, with so few producers should pick and choose exactly which companies they want to work with, regardless of whether they are doing a solo site or not. I can't see you ever having stood for that, despite the fact it would have been more advantageous years ago, when there were less models.
I agree with your second point but that being the choice of a model to make, not a contract.
Overexposure can still happen even if the girl keeps it fresh. I don't know if I am the minority, but I get tired of seeing the same girl doing the same thing, the only thing that is different is her look. I think sometimes when a new girl comes out, the consumer gets bombarded with so many shoots of the new girl. Whether the shoot is on Shemale Yum, then Shemale Domination, then T-Girl Pinups, then repeat. I notice that some guys like it when they haven't seen a girl in a long time and they pay more attention to her than someone who we already seen a dozen times in other sites.
Oh I def. agree that each model has diff circumstances and all should put all their options on the table before deciding or signing a contract. However if a model can make that same type of money with a contract by doing other shoots within the network, paid at home cam shows, ETC then she isnt really hurting in the long run. HOWEVER not every girl has those options or not all have a "star" factor to do so.
I dont think companies are "desperate" when they sign models as it happens outside of the TS market all the time. If that model can make "x" amount of money outside of her website within a company because of her contract then no need to shoot for others as her income is being padded with her website and that is what an EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT is there to do.
I would never tell a girl to sign a contract if that contract has no incentives outside of her website that would financially be bad for the girl!
Oh, of course you're right, but it really depends on the girl. Some need the extra boost and some are just natural draws. I think it's subjective, but to say that a model should necessarily underexposure herself for a certain period of time seems generalized and arbitrary.

I think that since I have not been on a lot of sites or any dvds that it might help launch of my site! Plus i am trying to make scenes a lot different on my site, and giving options on my solo site. I was told when I come into this industry to not over expose yourself. But of course I think like any model we want to work more in this business. But, now that I am further into it and getting closer to my site launch that I am glad for the outcome of everything. And considering I will own all my content.
Porn can be boring if you watch it so much too! I personally hate story lines when I watch porn.... i fast forward all that! Its too cheezy! Unless its real like reality I dont think its good! So I am trying to do more reality base intros to my scenes.
I think they're probably fairly desperate Wendy and probably reflecting losing market share, which is why they wouldn't lock her in to a contract to benefit the models own site but to prevent her from working on sites competitive to their other network sites and income. As I said earlier, I sincerely doubt that by being in such a contract it would reflect in monetary gain for her being exclusive over working and making straight up model payments for the sites or companies she selects. This is why a contract favours the company and harms the model.
I think you have far more integrity to suggest a model to something financially bad for herself, than unfortunately, others do.
As a business, it's "possibly" a good idea but unless they're offering that model $20,000-$30,000 a year on top of her website split, on top of the cam split and on top of shoots she's getting paid to do for other sites on that network, then they are hurting her finances.
Essentially what you are doing Michelle, is locking YOURSELF into the same sort of contract that someone like KJ or BJ has done, decided to limit your exposure and own all your own content, while still giving yourself the opportunity to work in other projects is something fun came along.
How close to your site launch?
