I have a friend (I know you think its me, but seriously) who is using steriods. He is 145 pounds, just started working out and says he has gained a quick 15 pounds using them. I told him that steroids are bad, mostly becuase I am under the impression that it leads to guarenteed cancer.
I know there is a TON of info on the net, just wondering if anyone had any personal experiences with the stuff. I don't use them and have no intention on it. I am worried about him, should I be? Just looking for a perspective on it...Thanks.
I've been around those who've used and was a personal trainer for some time, and have some background in medical use of anabolics. Short answer...there are mild risks with short term use. Subcutaneous injections can be at risk for bacterial infections so make sure everything is clean. Know exactly what you are taking, and dosages. With that said, side effects of short to moderate use will be altered mood, depression following withdrawl, increase of blood cholesterol and liver enzymes, acne, sexual side effects (from raging hard ons to failure to maintain erection), bad breath, gynecomastia, and accelerated hair loss. Post cycle therapy is highly suggested to bring natural testosterone levels to normal levels, as taking steriods inhibits natural production. You don't want your blood level of test out of whack. Your friend really should consult a doctor and get blood tests before and after his cycles to see where all his levels come out.
Stacking cycles, and improper dosages and frequency will increase all of the side effects and if taken long enough (on/off for years at times) you will develop possible hardening of the arteries, liver cancer, brain tumors, and other more serious diseases. Its not stuff to be taken lightly. However, infrequent cycles in small doses under supervision of doctors care shows low risk for complications.
IMO why not suggest to him to skip the steroids and learn how to change his diet and exercise routines first? Without that knowledge he can take all the roids he can and still come out with poor results. Seems like this fellow is young and noob in the gym...he needs a better beginning than to start with a needle.
FYI- I am and always have been a natural athlete and have never sought the use of anabolics. THis is just my 15 years of experience around those who do use.
