Divas SF Report - Sept 7, 2012
I just moved to the Bay Area and I visited Divas twice this week. After reading about it for years, it was "interesting" to finally see the place in person.
I visited on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and surprisingly, Wednesday (school girl night) was a little more crowded, and both nights had a ratio of about 2 guys for each tgirl.
The second (third) floor had a strip show, and there were several incredibly beautiful Thai (?) strippers. One girl looked like an Asian Megan Fox (I think she posts here) and there was a taller girl who was just as gorgeous.
I talked to and got to know the staff. Jessica, the downstairs bartender was a hoot, yelling and screaming about things. She's fun to joke with. The door person was named Rain who quietly read books between sketchy people coming through the doors talking to her. I also to talked to the owner Steve, about the layers of hassle he has to put up with running a "den of ill repute". I thanked him for keeping the place going, if it weren't for him the place wouldn't be in existence.
Of course, the vast majority of the girls there were "working", but there was plenty of good conversation and not all the girls were hustling. It reminded me of Edelweiss in NYC, but the venue is bigger, slightly less sketchy and no thugy doormen.
San Francisco (especially the Tenderloin) reminds me of Manhattan pre-early 1990's, before it got all gentrified. The streets are dark, homeless people everywhere, etc.
I'm looking forward to visiting Asia SF, Martuni's and Marlena's....

Dude I was gonna hit you up to see what to do in DC as i am hitting there tomorrow but you have move to the bay. Enjoy it bruh!

Glad to hear Divas is still alive and throbbing...is that woman on the door, Rain, a mature Thai? When I was there I think she would have been c28-33 and that was around 2003, she was always nice to talk to. In those days the star dancer was a Filipina called Lucy, an amazing beauty. There was a slim black girl running the cloakroom who also did one of 'acts' in the downstairs bar at weekends. In terms of its size and accessibility, its the kind of venue I think New York and LA ought to have instead of the here today, gone tomorrow venues; if there is enough business to keep it going in SF it must be a going concern in the other cities...? Pity about the location though, it is rough.

The location of Diva's isn't rough. It's in a good enough area just off Polk St.

I used to park in a garage on Geary St and foot it to the club...until the blokes dented my car. I then parked even further away...at the Cova Hotel on Ellis St. While walking Larkin, sure I saw a lot of homeless folks and such, but I was cool...no problems whatsoever.
Mind you I was also wearing Dodgers hear while on that four block walk. :yayo:

I don't get to Diva's very often but I love just sitting in that second floor window seat overlooking the street and just thinking. I had a great conversation with a guy there last time.
I agree that the area around Diva's is pretty safe. Parking is atrocious but every time I've been there I've walked several blocks with no problems. I think regular patrols by the popo for the SWs keeps things pretty safe, despite the homeless and etc.

I was there in 2003-on one night while walking to the club the police were interviewing someone on the street corner who had been mugged; later on there were streetwalkers in the area (ts and gg), and I was told to take a taxi straight to my hotel when leaving the apartment of the girl I left Divas with, who lived not far from the fire station. Ok so it isn't dangerous but maybe I was paranoid anyway, as I often have been in US cities at night. Obviously, I should go back as soon as possible!
