Re: The US Government shutdown
I'm concerned about the effects of the gov't shutdown, but if they fuck with the debt limit and my 401k tanks again, I'm just about ready to go postal. I hope these congressional fuckers will applaud me as I wave my 2nd amdt rights in front of their faces.

Government shutdown. Brought to you by two men: David and Charles Koch -- :)

Re: The US Government shutdown
It's not shutdown. They still take taxes out of your paycheck, while they aren't even working... and now people who are receiving food stamps won't be able to get the funding they need. This country is a joke.
Re: The US Government shutdown
It is a shutdown...a shut down of all brain cells the GOP ever possessed. The GOP want’s us to trust them with the government?! I wouldn’t trust them with a box of tic-tacs.

Really? Who’s “they?” The program written by your employer that deducts the tax and then prints your check? Or perhaps you imagine government men drop from black helicopters at the end of each week and personally take their cut of your paycheck.

It is a shutdown of all non-essential government services. Hog farmers are having a hissy-fit because they don’t have this week’s government data that they depend upon to set hog prices.

Even essential services are operating at lower capacity. The CDC is currently monitoring a salmonella outbreak but is having difficulty getting the warnings out because their communications staff is legally classified as non-essential.

The GOP got food stamps dropped from this year's farm-bill. But now because of the GOP-shutdown, the implementation of the bill is delayed. It's harvest time and farmers are in an uproar. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
This list goes on. All you have to do is read a real newspaper and listen to a real news program.

A comment on a blog entry by Rachel Maddow this morning:
"President Obama should agree to a one-year delay in the mandate -- if the GOP agrees to universal background checks and comprehensive gun control legislation."
See? Two can play that game.

And MSNBC wonders why its ratings have imploded. With all due respect, citing Maddow on the Left is akin to citing Beck on the Right (no wonder FOX dropped him). Blaming one party, or even a faction of one party, is a facile argument that misses the point entirely; that is, the problem is more systemic than partisan.
I can't help but laugh at the hypocrisy of Republicans decrying Obama for granting waivers to "his corporate buddies" or Democrats bemoaning gerrymandered districts. Politically myopic ideologues who hold that the other party is the problem are the problem.

American media is all bullshit as far as I'm concerned. I don't bother watching the "news."

That's pretty clear.
Re: The US Government shutdown
I can appreciate that the partisanship of both parties have exacerbated past issues, but anyone who thinks this shutdown is not GOP designed hasn't kept their eye on the ball. This entire situation would disappear if Boehner would just drop his adherence to the so called Hastert rule (which says: nothing comes to the floor if it can't be passed by a majority of the majority) and let a clean CR come to a vote.
Re: The US Government shutdown
This may now be a well-cycled quote from a Republican Congressman from Indiana called Martin Stutzman:
"We’re not going to be disrespected. We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”
