I often really like tattoos on women (gg or tg), even if it covers large areas. The ones they regret, such as shotty ones done by amateurs, are unfortunate. When its all said and done, if they are happy with it, then thats what matter.
There is a busker (male0 in the Tube at one of the West End stations who has a spiral tattooed from the top of his head all dow is head.
I own about 9 pieces and two of it are big ones. half Sleeve and a 3rd of my back.

I don't think the op was out of line. I have seen some bad tattoos. It just happens. I had friends who wanted a tattoo and got a horrible one. My brother wanted tattoo and it was horrible. It was very meaningful, but it was horrible. A bad tattoo is a bad tattoo. Sadly, not every tattoo artist is equal and not many people prior to going to a tattoo parlor will know the quality of the artist or the circumstances of the tattoo's quality. I do think if you are considering a tattoo, take the time to find someone whose quality is amazing. You get a tattoo, its one for life. I still feel sorry for my friends who have their ex names tattoo on their body or who did it on a whim.
What some people think is a horrible tattoo, other people might think its an amazing tattoo and vice versa. It's really in the eye of the beholder. I can look at person's tattoo and think "why they do that?" but I imagine the meaning of the tattoo is special to them and only to them.
