Has Anyone Actually Been IN / NEAR A Tornado?
So, for those of you who watched Man of Steel, you probably know why I'm asking.
Having grown up on the West Coast my whole life, I've only experienced earthquakes. Has anyone experienced an actual tornado? How close were you? What was it like (besides sucking, I'm sure)?
I was once changing irrigation pipe lines in the fields and got caught up in a small dust storm. Actually, I was dared to run into it by the other workers and stupidly did. I was surprised by the force of just that little whirlwind so I can't even imagine what it must be like to go through a real-life tornado.
Re: Has Anyone Actually Been IN / NEAR A Tornado?
i was near a tornado in south texas and basically it was A LOT that just kept getting more and more intense, followed by some rain.
btw: think of the violent wind as strong enough to blow off roof tops, flatten trees type

Or do this... I thought this was a pretty awesome picture if it is real.

If you talk about people, I must say a few times, Krissy. :) But to the meteorological phenomenon, never. I'm in the North East, in Quebec, and here, we're protected by the Apalachian mountains. But it happens sometimes; a few times it came close, with very high velocity winds, and it was scary. I'm usually not shaken by the weather; on the contrary, I love special events. But these few times, I was scared...
Like you, I wouldn't want to find myself in the middle of this...

My mother lives down in Alabama and there's a HELL of a lot of tornados down there. I was once walking out of a walmart down there during a storm and I could see shopping carts getting lifted off the ground in the parking lot... I decided to stay in the store.

Amy, don't be ashamed. If it is good enough for Natalie Portman to have a baby in, it is good enough for you to live in. You can just say,
"I was once walking out of my home down there during a storm and I could see shopping carts getting lifted off the ground in the parking lot... I decided to stay home."
There is nothing wrong with living inside a Walmart.

yep. actually, when this tornado happened, i was in south padre island and staying at a condo right on the beach belonging to this mature broad i was banging at the time (good times btw).
anyway, we had to evacuate because it was picking up strength and the bridge that connects the island with the rest of the world should get shut down. if that was damaged by the tornado, you'd basically be stuck.
when we returned 2 days later, lots of stuff had washed up on the beach including people's photo albums, clocks, random kids toys etc. so we'd spend some time going to the beach to find all this stuff

I always find lightning pictures lovely. I just feel for the people who have to take those pictures. It can't be easy. Any of those yours, personally?
I've always meant to visit Quebec. I would love to just take a Summer off and stay on PEI (how stupidly girly, right?), see the Anne of Green Gables sites and then jet off to Quebec. I hear it is a lovely city.

:( All the other kids at school used to make fun of me! The worst part was when my parents tried to put me on sale for half off and nobody bought me!
Here's my first baby picture...
