Bullets and Belief; or Liberty and Law?

One wonders why someone who presumably follows the Christian faith would want to kill anyone, but then one wonders if this man has any idea what the 'Cause' or the 'Rebellion', as referred to at the time, now called the 'American Revolution', had at its core.

Consider the comment made by John Adams in 1815 on one of the causes of the 'Revolution' -the fear of the Bishops, or what he called 'the Episcopacy'. What he and others objected to was not just the 'tyranny' of the Crown, but the tyranny of organized religion. This is of great importance in understanding why, when the 'Founding Fathers' came to write the US Constitution, they were explicit in separating the Church from the State.

We can re-frame this as the Constitution being a document of Laws that guarantee the Liberty of the Citizen. It must mean that Reason, rather than Faith, Law rather than Belief, has been the foundation of American politics. This does not remove Religion from politics, but it does remove it from Government.

So not only is Mr Schilling wrong about his country being founded on 'Godly principles', by appearing to believe that murder in the name of God is allowed or even encouraged, he is enforcing a narrow view onto the majority, which is a form of tyranny of belief. In his wild attempt to 'save America' he is in fact seeking to dismantle the actual principles on which the United States was founded. And I don't doubt others believe what he does, even though he is wrong.

The Constitution is not a statement of Faith, but of Law. It really is that simple, but simple minded people who think Trump is America's best option, are deluded, and will remain so until the USA wakes up from the nightmare through which it has been dawdling these past years.
