It's worth considering other possibilities such as the OP may be using an ADSL service where the upload speed is poor compared to the download speed; he wasn't initially aware of the parameter constraints such as max width/height and filesizes for differing filetypes either.

Some images will not be served robotically from other sites even if they show up in your local browser, try clearing your image cache before declaring success ;)
