From a quick reading, it seems like they were saying that post trans had higher mortality rates and greater mental health hospitalizations, than the greater population averages. I would attribute much of that to their previous lives, of trying to survive. That typically be greatly affected by pressure from peers while they were in school. As young trans people have gotten media exposure, I believe that there would be improved results in future studies.

Studies show that women with boobs jobs have higher rates of suicide than the general population so it is not the answer.

On a larger level, there is an important element of truth. I say, is would be better said that, transgender surgery is not the only solution to greater happiness. It's a big part of happiness, but not all. Younger minds think more in magical solutions to happiness: e.i "When I get this one thing x, I will be entirely happy. But for all of us, there are multiple issues to face in life. But just being happy, comes from a habit of thinking about the positive possibilities, in each situation. Lots of things we see as negative, such as a relationship break-ups, open up something positive. Even death of a loved one , does not take away the fact, (or memories), of the things that person gave us when they were alive. Being thankful, that that person was in your life, is a key to happiness, in loss. Being thankful is a core concept in religions, cross the board, so that's a key tool. Another core tool, is to be happy for others. Fight the enemy of jealousy. What somebody has or does, was not meant for you, at that moment. You have double happiness, when you find something better, (more perfect for you), when you are happy for someone, instead of jealous. Often times, without that other person's 'success', you may have not recognized the better thing, when it came along. what you attain, you will less happy without using the tools.

I think an implication for the article was that surgery is not needed, But we know the truth here. So, it is not necessary for me to discuss it.
