About two weeks ago Wizards of the Coast released a short story, The Truth of Names (http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/uncharted-realms/truth-names-2015-01-28), where they introduced a trans character, Alesha, She Who Smiles at Death, to the Magic the Gathering storyline. The story itself was about her trying to help one of her warriors accept who he was -- that she was a transperson added to the meaning to the story and was extraordinarily respectful and well done. If you're inclined to read such things, its worthwhile.

It was a little unfortunate of how they handled the flavor text on her card. Flavor text is typically a little quote they add to provide more insight to the storyline theme of the card.

Hers is: "Greet Death with Sword in Hand".

Yeah... I see a cosplay set needing to happen.

Yeah it's actually been on a huge boom of popularity over the past several years. I got back into thanks to Tiffany Starr -- we bought cards to play at AVN one year and when I got home started playing with some friends.

My son played Magic the Gathering way long ago, I recall the Legends being a set which was worse than the older ones. I bet it was 20 years ago now.

He used to piss a lot of adults off, he was good enough to advance a number of rounds in the tourneys. Adults do not like losing to 10 year olds.

Wow, that's really cool. I actually just bought this card for a deck, and I didn't even know she was trans! :)
