Has anyone been watching this on HBO? The Foo Fighters Sonic Highway (http://www.hbo.com/foo-fighters-sonic-highways#/) , It is very good so far. They travel the US and interview musicians from cities known for their music. They are making a album, well if that is what they are called anymore. A single from each city.

I just watched the Chicago episode. So far, it seems like a perfect mix of the musical history of Chicago, their bands influences and only at the very end the song they recorded based on their time in that city. I'm not a big fan of Foo Fighters but it was fun to watch. Check it out if you have HBO.

I also saw the Chicago one. It's cool. Maybe a bit pretentious.

Haven't followed the Foo Fighters at all, but they were the music guest on Letterman every night last week and I just happened to catch the show w/ Tony Joe White sitting in and they did Polk Salad Annie. It was killer. So I checked out the Chicago episode of this HBO thing...also pretty dam good. Some great interview stuff w/ Leonard Chess and Buddy Guy...a bunch of other interviews about a bunch a punk bands I'd never heard of but for the most part tolerably watchable. I will be checking out the other episodes. DC? Didn;t realize there was much of a music scene there.

Just caught the Nashville episode...also excellent, w/ interviews w/ Willy Nelson, EmmyLou Harris, Tony Joe White etc.....also Dolly and Zac Brown. Never paid much attention to him before, but I'm becoming more and more impressed w/ Dave Grohl, who is director on these segments. They spend the hour delving into the music scene in each city w/ various interviews and archival footage, and at the end they perform an original tune incorporating many of the things talked about w/ the guests....pretty cool. Next stop, Austin....can't wait to see what Billy Gibbons has to say. Meanwhile, WTF...you guys go to DC but skip San Francisco? What up w/that?

Grohl lived in Virginia as a boy, and came up through the D.C. punk scene.

Great show. The Nashville show was one of the best I have seen.

Aha....that explains a few things....thanx for that. Meanwhile, caught the Austin segment the other day...also very well done. I'm impressed. May not be runnin out to buy a buncha Foo Fighter albums yet, but I'll definitely be checking out the rest of these episodes....very entertaining and informative series. My only complaint so far....not enough Bonnie Raitt!!!
