The horrible murder of a young transgendered woman in Australia - and the disgusting press coverage of it.

Oh yes.... and the crass coverage was in a Murdoch owned paper. What a surprise.....

The murder took place in a nation where the majority of voting adults legitimately voted in an ex-boxer... wrap your head around that for a second. Did you really expect fair, unbiased, objective reporting of such a story by an Australian news service?

Such things make me ashamed to live in this nation. :heartbroken:

That's nice work, me. My post was probably better-suited to the Politics & Religion section. Won't happen again, boss! :dead:

Distasteful maybe - but they're in the business of selling, not informing and headlines like this catch the eye (Freddie Starr Ate My Pet Hamster) and sell more papers, than
"Remains of Body Found in Apartment".

She called herself a "shemale" (and I believe a "Ladyboy") in her escort ads. He was a chef - and he butchered and cooked her, although it looks more like a way to dispose the body rather than the inference that he ate her.

It was irrelevant that she was a transsexual and it was irrelevant that she was an escort to the under-lying story, but newspapers and most media are out to make money and to get people to look, you need to turn heads.

The Guardian and it's "outrage" are just as bad, in other ways, especially with their on-going class wars.

class wars? C'mon Steven. The vileness of the class war in this country is being conducted by the Government against the poorest and weakest in our society, not by the Guardian. And to say it as bad as the Murdoch rags that stoop as low as they can if it makes a quick buck is simply wrong. The Murdoch empire remember is the one that was investigated for bugging phones of ordinary innocent people... hacking the phones of a couple whose child has been missing and has probably been murdered. The Murdoch empire has had some its key players tried and convicted for their crimes. The Murdoch empire has brought us such poison as Fox News.

I am sorry you don't see the vileness of this newspaper coverage for what it is.

A sadly typical case of the popular press relying on cultural ridicule when it could be challenging it. The aim is to reinforce the idea that ladyboys or shemales are not normal people, that one of them was cruelly murdered merely underlines the 'fact' that the world 'they' live in is on the margins of the world 'we' live in. Murdoch, who can't maintain his own relationships (how many broken marriages is it now?), whose employees think breaking the law is as normal as telling lies, is the last person to be the moral policeman of Australia, or any other country for that matter. There is a serious story behind this murder, but I doubt that the Murdoch press will investigate it.

Striving to be normal since...i'm not saying.

But I DO want to say: thank you guys for your responses to this and other outrages against transgenders__not just to the crime but to the inevitable media hype and frenzy that follows such events. It's a comfort to know sane and loving people are out there and not afraid to be vocal in their support. Thank you for being normal and knowing what normal really is.
