I've been watching it & I give the show's writer(s) "kudos" for straying away from the "sexy" vampire that's been prominent the last couple of decades.

"The Strains" vampires are ugly, offensive, & malevolent. Quite refreshing (IMHO) to see them in a different light...

Real good show getting better. Love the twist on the Vampires, that stinger is nasty. I hope they go back in time to show how these type of Vampires evolved. Worms.

Started watching this only because I read the book series when it first came out...and the reason I got the book series was because I wanted to see what kind of new spin Guillermo Del Toro could put on the vampire legend....plus a lot of it takes place in N.Y State....I have to admit though - overall I wasn't thrilled with the books...I thought I thought they were just 'okay'...could've been better.

I figured, with Del Toro involved, it was probably always part of the plan to be a film or cable show, so maybe that will be better than the book version.
So far I like it. It's a little hammy, but the effects and makeup have been handled well. I don't much care for the actor chosen to play the lead...but that hardly matters because in the show, as with the books, the secondary characters are far more interesting anyway. Fet - the exterminator is totally cool.

Love how the CDC people are in denial it's a vampiric outbreak, not like there's been millions of movies about vampires that would give you a clue when you see certain symptoms...

Watched the first two or three episodes, 'cause Del Toro was involved in the production. Gave up 'cause I'm burnt out on vampires. Never finished the last couple of seasons of True Blood either.

Lol...you would think just finding aggressive, skin burrowing, blood drinking worms at JFK...would be enough to to set the CDC into a world stopping tizzy...even if you leave out the carved, wooden sarcophagus filled with soil.

I believe True Blood is geared more towards a female audience, whereas, in my opinion, this is more geared towards a male audience.

I will probably wait for all of True Blood seasons to become available on Netflix or Amazon , then will marathon watch them while stoned.

Anybody's guess what the Master will look like?

Yeah
08-22-2014, 04:10 AM
I think a mix of the newly infected vampires and the orginal 1930's version.

And when you see something looking like a vampire attack in the real world you are going to think: "this looks like a vampire attack, but what on earth is it really..." till you get more information

I'm fairly open-minded to paranormal activity, if I see some weird vampire-like shit going down in real life I ain't gonna worry about the particulars, I'm going to haul ass it to the nearest church - load up on holy water and crosses and book it to someplace the sun shines all freaking day.

How long have vampires been around? Since the first appearances of modern humans some 100 000 years ago? Since God created Heaven and the Earth 6000 years ago? Or perhaps they’re a relatively recent development, first appearing say 2100 years ago shortly after the beginning of the Christian Era.

How often do they bite people and turn their victims into vampires? Once a year? Once a decade? Twice a century?

Let’s suppose the oldest vampire is 2100 years old and that he and his “converts” bite and turn another human each once every 70 years. Since vampires don’t die (or die rarely) there should be 2 to the power of 30 vampires (since 2100/70 = 30) "living" on Earth right now; that’s just over one billion vampires__one seventh the Earth’s population are undead! If each one bites and turns one more human each, they would account for two seventh of the Earth’s population. If each of those two billion vampires bit and turned a human, their population would rise to four seventh of the world’s population. If each of those four billion vampires bit and turned a human there would be no humans left. We could be only three bites aways from total extinction!

It was good...I think this show is really getting addicting..It's entering a much more interesting phase that I forgot about...when I go to Direc Tv to catch up on shows I missed during the week - I now go to FX to watch this before going to Showtime for Ray Donovan...(then i go to Netflix to finish the second season of American Horror...the fourth season of American Horror, I believe, will be about a circus freak show...excellent!!).

when I go to Direc Tv to catch up on shows...

I meant OnDemand actually.

BTW...surprised no one mentioned that the actor that plays Abe Setrakian - David Bradley - also plays the much hated Walder Frey on "Game of Thrones".

I'm digging the show despite its shortcomings; it`s ok if you just wanna see something on TV.

I`m really surprised by the last episode though, making an obscure reference to "los desaparecidos" in Argentina, not something your average american audience will get.

(by the way, the actress is argentinian, though her accent is not hardcore portenio, which in case is good and makes it easier for non-argentinians to understand.)

So we finally got a look at The Master. What did you guys think? I have mixed feelings about him. He was creepy but ... why wasn't I scared? Was he a bit chubby? He reminded me of the bad guy in a Porky Pig cartoon I saw as a kid.

Read the Graphic Novels(to date) & "The Fall". The TV Series is pretty faithful to the source material(except "Dutch" the hacker).

He reminded me of the bad guy in a Porky Pig cartoon I saw as a kid. After thinking about it I think the next time we see Sardu we will be scared. Remember that was 1944 The Master was still evolving. My guess, when we see him next the look might be different. At least I hope it is. The last episode is called The Master.
