The actor Rupert Everett presented the first of a series of films on prostitution on the UK's Channel 4 last night. Programmes like this usually take a moral stance, whereas Everett not only admitted he had done some casual prostitution as a young man (c17 years), but did not seem ashamed to say how much he enjoyed open air sex in the Bois de Boulogne when he lived in Paris, and where he formed a close friendship with a transexual sex worker, Lychee, who was murdered in the Bois in 1998. He discussed her life with other -mostly Latin American- transexuals who work the Bois, saying until he identified Lychee's body in the morgue he had no idea how big her cock was. This is not the kind of language one normally hears in programmes like this, though it is true most of the 'girls' he interviewed are now in their late 30s and 40s, though this might also depict accurately the decline of the Bois as a place younger workers would go to, though they are still there (and a few in the quieter area around Port Dauphine).

As is the case with these programmes, he touched on those who choose to escort, and make good money from it -one woman in Exeter claims to have 3 clients a day and orgasms with each one, and to Everett's question how can you can have sex with an ugly overshaped old man she insisted she finds something in all her clients that pleases her...he did speak to a woman in Liverpool who works through the force of circumstance, to feed her child and her drug habit; and to a young Arab from Jordan working illegally as a male prostitute in the old bus station in Tel Aviv. He also had no qualms at surfing a rent boy website and filming a rent boy to talk about his experiences -this one claiming 8 of his male escort friends have committed suicide in the last 18 months.

Next week he looks at the men who pay for sex,

Link might not work for people outside the UK.

As much as I loathe watching Rupert Everett, I look forward to watching this documentary.

I've seen him on stage a few times - and he has been pretty good. First saw him opposite Kenneth Branagh in "Another Country" in the 1980s.

This series sounds "interesting."

I saw it and applaud the fact that Everett presents it because he's not someone who brings a load of moral baggage or the Theroux-type sensationalist voyeurism that this subject matter is often tackled with.

Look forward to the rest of the series. About time Sky produced the next Ladyboy series methinks ...

What's your beef with Rupert? I admit his permanent smirk gets tiresome after a bit, but his acting isn't all that horrible.

From last night's programme: a dominatrix called Mistress Dita (used to be a prison officer), who claims she sends fresh poo by post to her slaves and orders them to spread it on toast and eat it...to a man who was shown being spit in the face, and forced to bend over while she inserted a police truncheon up his ass (censored, thankfully!). She claims 90% of her clients want an 'anal experience'...

I didn't mind him until I saw him on the charity episode of The Apprentice. Amongst all the other toads, he came across as the worst and just a totally inept excuse for a person. He then just left after making promises that he couldn't fulfill.
A poor fop.

Steven. You should read his autobiographies esp the second one. He is a remarkably good writer and very entertaining.

finally watched this. loved it. a few thoughts:

when he had bruno over at his "fuck pad" i thought he was going to get a snog coz (besides bruno being all twitchy) he seemed like he was genuinely ready to get down.

i liked when he took lycee's friends to the museum to show them how artists depicted prostitutes.

felt bad for the bird that said she was going to quit when she finally hit 30. i thought she was 50 (from voice and figure)

great second episode.

i really like mistress dita (actually reminded me of a girl i went to school with) but didn't like those instruments she supposedly inserted into men's cocks. i think rupert was rather enjoying flogging that chap that showed up, so two points of rupert. the "to go lunches" bit was pretty funny too. i pity the sod that gets his with instructions to heat it up on the stove.

rupert called sammi "a bloke with a wig and tits", but earlier said "he takes female hormones". so isn't sammi a transsexual? sammi even said they were unable to cum because of the hormones. that bit confused me a bit because in the last episode, he referred to all the t-girls as girls.

btw: i thought it was interesting that lycee wanted to marry rupert even though he is gay.
