From what i understand so far, the commisioner of the nba does not have the power to force sterling out of the sport, although he does have the power to suspend indefinitely...no doubt sterling would go to court and seek an injunction if that happened.

It's also unclear if other owners would be able to force sterling to sell and so far, michael jordan is the only owner who has spoken out.

The nba will be holding a press conference tomorrow and they're supposed to release additional details.

This shit just keeps getting better and better.

If the NBA was smart they would make this go away quick. Silver needs to be decisive and firm in his first official crisis.

Her statement on Kemp was priceless. " He's lighter than me so I thought you would not mind"

and then this...

just one question: no matter how much money he was giving her how did she manage to see him naked without puking and then have sex with him?

She must have been good at what she did. Four cars including a Ferarri and a nice condo.

Probably one of the most talented actresses in LA to make him think he was attractive.

in all seriousness...i find that this situation is fucking bullshit.

is sterling a fucktard racist...of course...but when his poor tenants tried to get a bit of media attention and legal help, they lost. when baylor tried to file a suit, he lost. now a recording surfaces that condemns Magic and the media jumps all over this? the media response to this troubles me.

now...to the posts above...silver cannot force sterling out as an owner...he is just a commissioner and he can suspend. the other 29 owners can force sterling to sell as the board of governors has far more power over an owner than the commish.

that said, does anyone doubt that the majority of the other 29 owners are not racist fucks too? can you imagine prokhavor or dolan giving a fuck about this? can you imagine the buss family wanting a more capable owner in LA? i don't think so.

He should have been tossed out years ago.In a League that's 80% or so Black you want that kind of owner in your league? Who's going to want to play there? Wouldn't be surprised if Doc Rivers resigns at the end of there Playoff run.

maybe doc leaves...but more than likely he stays after silver suspends sterling. that is the only possible outcome that he can offer lest fans start calling for a new commish.

i have a feeling that the other owners will not try to force him to sell either because they are biased as well (closeted most likely) or because they will feel sorry for their friend. after a brief period of suspension....just like marge schott, sterling may sell but it will come off as being of his own volition.

you are an idiot. tickets were bought and paid for weeks or at least days ago. the protest of not showing up means nothing to sterling's bank account.

now...if you had not made your post about sterling's money and rather had said something about showing fan solidarity against sterling by choosing to boycott on national tv...that might have been a valid post. unfortunately, you don't know how to make a coherent argument.

now...back on track...you all have to realize something...all the players and coaches and such are also out for job security...no one will make a rash move until silver makes a decision. until then, it is business as usual. if what stood in the way of getting a ring was being called a "nigger" by donald sterling, almost every player on the clippers and doc rivers would say that they (the players and coach) did it in spite of sterling and they'ed want that ring. its just business as usual.

Can we speak the truth here... the "fans" in attendance at the NBA playoffs are mostly white corporate types who sit in pre-paid seats as part of tax deferred business T&E. They could give a fuck about any particular home team and probably feel Sterling isn't that bad a guy.

that's probably true. good point.

also, one more point about the players...that weak-assed jersey dump that they did...they went as far as they could without really doing anything of value. they know who writes the checks and don't want to do any long term damage to their reputation around the league with other owners/potential future employers.

i say it again...sterling is an asshole but the media is really driving this story...it is not as important as it is being made out to be.

You are also a racist. They can demand refunds from the NBA. I'm sure the NBA will be willing to give refunds to offended fans. As an African American as a human being I will not watch his games or even to them.

The players and coaches are not out for job security. The clippers are a 12 man roster with talent and a highly respected coach. All of them would find new jobs for the following season. Refusing to work for a racist owner who does NOT want YOUR FAMILY at the game speaks volumes. If they did not wan to play then reasonable human beings unlike racist such as you would totally understand the team.

Even though I'm a Lakers fan first and foremost, I'm still wearing my Clippers cap in support of the players, not the owner. No players (and no coaches), no team.

Fans attending the game should all wear black...while the Clips should wear their light blue unis instead of the usual home ones with Clippers blazed across the front.

I think we should take our cues from what the players want...if they say boycott the game live and on TV, that's what we should do...if they feel like fan support is important to them now, we should honor that...my guess is that they would want the latter and I think it's a good idea if the fans (who are mostly white) support the players (who are mostly black)...but again, it's their call.

I just feel that as a white guy and as someone who is Jewish, what Sterling did is very embarrassing to me.

I disagree. We are human beings. The players are playing for someone who sees them as slaves. They are his labor. They are playing for someone who does not want their families to attend games. A reasonable person shouldn't take that too lightly. If someone told me that my mother was not welcomed at my job because she is black, then I would walk out. If the players won't take a stand, then the people can take a stand.

But if someone did that to me I would be like fuck you, I'm gonna bring my family wherever the hell I want to...I wouldn't deprive my family the joy of seeing me play and possibly win a championship just because of this racist asshole, especially after having devoted pretty much my entire life to achieving something this significant.

Allowing jackesses to be jackasses creates problems. You're just causing trouble for everyone.

Donald should not own a NBA team. The majority of players are black. What message are you sending by wanting or being okay with this man as an owner? He should not be the boss of any minority because he sees them as slave labor. He wants blacks to summit to him. He does not treat minorities equally as we have seen from the past.

More importantly, minority free agents will not sign with the team. Drafted players may refuse to play for the team. They don't have to sign the contract with the team after the draft.

A couple of my thoughts:
- He has a part black mistress that he has given loads to. Yet he has a problem with blacks, he is mixed up.
- It is OK for her to fuck other guys but don't bring them to the game? Flat twisted.
- He is certainly closed minded and on the path to racist, but he buys a team that his players are 90% black. Really skitzo.
- He brings his hot date (yes she looks trans) to games, where his wife's lawyers circle the wagons - just dumb.

He really should sell the team and sell most of his real estate. Being a slumlord is criminal in my book. But those ideas should dawn on him, forcing such idiots to do the right thing doesn't change the next one. We need peoples hearts to change where they accept others be it race, religion, identity, etc.

I can understand the anger of so many, I myself wishes his house burns down.

His racist business practices are pretty well documented.

When this story first broke, I thought he just did not want to have to see his lady with brothers she was banging. After reading all of the lawsuits, attributed quotes and above all his statement that he gives his players everything they have, there was no doubt, this dude is a piece of shit.

I think over the next few weeks more and more shoes are going to continue to drop and its going to get messier. All parties are in damage control mode but the media smells blood.

I'm assuming you understand that this is the same guy who told his leasing agents of his apartments not to rent to blacks and hispanics because they stink and attract vermin. With that being said I'm having a hard time understanding your stance when we're talking about a league/business that's driven by an 80% black workforce. I understand fairness and all and that people have the right to feel the way they feel and there's really no way to police what evils people carry in their hearts. But your statement was a little TOO Herman Cainish for me brotha. I understand wanting to seem reasonable but damn. This guy through his own statements sees himself as a slave master who makes a good portion of his fortune off the backs of black labor. Paid or unpaid isn't the issue. It's the continued degradation of the people who work for him and the people that pay for his product.

It will only happen if corporations pull sponsorship support for NBA coverage to the extent that owners and TV networks begin to fell Sterling is eroding the value of their franchises.
Will THAT happen? doubt it. The public has a short attention span when it comes to this kind of stuff. At the end of the day we just want to see Lebron and Curry wow us with their talent.

i think this story is going to have more legs than the average racist millionaire story. The details that are already out are pointing towards more titillating revelations.

I like Kareem's take on the whole situation as it seems level headed but I am convinced there is more coming.

As it sits right now Silver can give him a lifetime ban but can do little to force him to sell. The other owners are looking at this and probably want the whole thing to go away lest they incur more scrutiny of their own personal lives. Sponsors have begun to abandon the Clips but that can only do so much.

I truly believe this is about race but deeper than that, this is a family dispute about to blow up, with Tinsel Town as the backdrop and millions of dollars at stake.

This is the ultimate episode of Basketball Wives, The Owners Edition.

It took years for Marge Schott to step down as the majority owner of the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB. She was fined and suspended twice for her racist comments and boorish behavior before she stepped down. So, it is possible for Sterling to be forced out as owner like Schott. However, he could probably fight it.

On a side note, Sterling doesn't see his ex-gf as black and hispanic. He sees her as white and hispanic. :yayo:

It would not be the government taking his team away, it would be his fellow club members saying he cannot be in the club anymore. There is a difference. They actually have that in their by-laws. It was concerning financial solvency but could be used in this circumstance according to reports.

Sterling has been banned for life from basically all nba activities and any involvement with his team, including the selection of players, coaches, and management.

The nba itself cannot force a sale of the team however, the other owners will be attempting to do so.

Also, the ruling by the nba applies specifically to donald sterling, which means that other members of his family could take control.

Additionally, the lifetime ban is independent of the owners forcing a sale.

HAHA... I had to put that on my Tumblr and Facebook pages lol...

Boy is Twitter lit up right now with "first amendment" advocates. They just don't understand!

The first amendment protects your freedom to say whatever you want to say. It does not protect you from the consequences of what you say, as long as it's not the government locking you away for it. Society, along with private citizens and corporations have the same freedom to react how they wish, which is protected under the very same amendment.

I'm still waiting to hear about any law that was broken by the Donald's vile statements. We've had players, coaches & executives convicted of spousal abuse, vehicular manslaughter, driving drunk, murder and they weren't banned for life and fined millions of dollars. Silver didn't make the decision. He delivered the decision forced upon him. The fear in his eyes as he recited the suspension and fines for Sterling couldn't be disguised. It took three days to hand down the maximum penalty. Yes, he was caught on tape, but so much for a fair 'trial'.

I'm nowhere near a racist but the quotes I read from Sterling are PG-rated compared to the extreme racial bitterness I have heard. Sterling was dead wrong to say them but the penalties are ridiculous and a small band-aid applied to a gushing wound that will never heal. Donald Sterling = Scapegoat.

Unfortunately I see this becoming a big issue Legally since the NBA is trying to force him to sell the team it will decrease drastically in value, Penny on the dollar. Also I believe they are using Donald Sterling as a "poster-boy" for this shit. End of the day racism has been around alot longer than good family values, its not going to die overnight nor will it die if you try and boot it. Thats why you never trust a bitch-Life lesson folks! Being said I dont doubt the other team owners dislike/like the decision made by the commissioner because end of the day its a business not a family. Owner of the Mavericks-Mark Cuban said it best.

The Clippers will sell for a price of 800-900 million or more. Not a bad return on his 18 million dollar investment.

The other owners would never let it sell for less than what its worth because that hurts their product. Furthermore there are many celebs out there dying to be the next Jay Z and buy themselves the ultimate status symbol.

A pro team in LA, with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin is worth a shit load of cash.

He won't be the first and of course won't be the last. Racism used to be a matter concerning ego and who can be the best race and maybe it still is but behind closed doors. Racism for me it's a matter of hate for someone you don't know. you might hate someone within your own race for being different like what happened with Shaquille O'neal and Jahmel Binion. I don't look at it for being black or white or straight or gay or religious or irreligious. It's when you stop being a human being. If you remember in cartoons or drawings the devil used to be red and that was because of the war between the Native Americans (red) and the European Settlers (white). It was a sort of demonizing the Native Americans and it worked. What his girlfriend looks like doesn't concern me or anyone here that's her life. If she want to look like a trans or do surgeries or date someone older that her that's her business. I will say it one more time there will always be racism as long as there's ignorance, hate and fear.

I wonder if she gives him the true GFE. Like does he get to use tongue when they kiss? Does he get to ride her bareback? Does she lick his old wrinkly ballsack?

I'm sure there is more racism form the court form the players and owners. Listen to Spike lee on his views on different race dating. But that's ok according to most.

Couldn't disagree more! This guy had a track record of racism and in a league that's almost 80% African American PG or not you can't say those kind of things. How come Ex Commish David Stern's name hasn't been brought up? This is mostly his garbage. He knew what was going on for years, and he turned a blind eye.

You honestly disagree that an outside power didn't influence Silver to make a decision so quickly? I couldn't disagree with your disagreement more. lol. As a result, getting rid of this guy in this knee-jerk manner has not rid the world of racism, it's stirred it up.

Okay how bout this. Thank God and outside power influenced Silver to make this decision so quickly. As a result of getting rid of this guy in this knee-jerk manner racism will unfortunately persist, and Sterling hasn't rid the world of racism but, HAS made sure that it won't be practiced by Donald Sterling as an NBA owner. If this has stirred up more racists then by golly I'm glad there are more racists (and that the NBA playoffs can continue without interruption). Goodnight

It's about MONEY. If a racist owner like Sterling causes advertisers with the Clippers to drop them as a sponsor, you gotta go.

Also, players were already saying they'd never suit up for the Clippers.

Dude told his innermost thoughts to a backstabbing gold-digger.

He got what he deserved.

It's going to be interesting to see who gets "a buy" on this when other people start releasing private conversations into the media.
