Thanks for that. I forgot. Give me another thumbs down. You're the best bean counter I never hired.

...Just be glad that the first part to go is the memory, not the member...;)

Ellen DeGeneres is not funny, just annoying. She's going to ruin the Oscars.
And being a lesbian has nothing to do with it.

Agreed. I don't understand her comedy and dance routines.

I don't know about entire routines. But Ellen did have one line of a stand up act that kind of stuck with me. She was pointing out how when people kind of trip when walking they always correct themselves by immediately jogging. She said they must think anyone watching them is thinking, "did they trip? Oh no wait, they're running."

I think about this anytime I kind of trip over my own feet and then break into a two or three step jog.

Anyhow I'm not saying she's a good stand-up as I don't really know, but that sort of stuck with me as a funny observation. I agree with that there really aren't too many good female stand-ups, but there aren't that many good stand-ups to begin with...I can think of about three or four that I can bear watching and yes they're men.

Joan Rivers. I heard she was a comedian recently, and I thought to myself, "I thought she was just a professional loudmouth with a face like a human science experiment." I honestly did not know she was ever considered a comedian...more like a tv personality or something.

Kathy Griffin. Standing up in front of a crowd and bad mouthing other celebrities that don't really want anything to do with you is not comedy.

I don't know who Kathy Griffin is but I cited 'Ms Rivers' in the first outing of this thread and see no reason to change. In the UK we have a galaxy of embarrassing non-comediennes waiting for their black hole moment -French and Saunders, Jenny Eclair, Sarah Millican, and Miranda Hart to name but five.

Not sure what's worse. Her dancing or watching the tools in the audience dance with her.

Ellen never has been funny. Whitney Cummings (you may know her by her porn name, Whitney Cummings) makes Ellen look like a comedic genius. Not sure how her show Whitney got a second season let alone a first one.

Lisa Lampanelli has gotten a few laughs out of me in the past but she became quite redundant.

You say they are waiting for their black hole moment so I have no reason to to confirm. Rivers is outlandish, vapid, and un-insightful. Yet some women love her.

I think males probably have a version of Joan Rivers where there's an intrinsic appeal to something base and unevolved (the lizard brain?)...maybe Dane Cook or Dice Clay would be the male equivalent.

There's a funny interview where Ricky Gervais was talking about how he was sitting and watching comedians get laughs. They would tell a story, and instead of making a clever observation they'd just end with the exclamation, "what the fuck?" "So I was smoking a joint with my friends, and the pot smelled a little funky. And I said, what the fuck?" He said if the "what the fuck" guys were getting a laugh, he didn't want one.

I think compared to the other female stand-ups Joan Rivers might be the best ever. She's older now and might have lost a step in her routine but that broad has made me laugh many times over the years. I might roll my eyes at her Fashion Police stuff now but I also have respect for the longevity of her career.

I also thought Phyllis Diller was very talented and just got familiar with LaWanda Page's(Aunt Esther) stage performances.
