I was doing a search on celeb sex tapes, and came across a thread on sex scenes in Hollywood movies.

When I was growing up I was under the impression all sex in 'R' rated movies was simulated, but nowadays I have my doubts.

I just found out one of my fave actresses, Chloe Sevigny, was filmed giving an actual BJ in the independent movie Brown Bunny that premiered at Cannes about a decade ago.

European directions generally admit if there are unsimulated sex scenes in one of their movies, however nearly all American directors tell critics and audiences the sex on screen is fake.

I have this theory that in reality, there's more unsimulated sex in American movies, but if the general public knew, these movies would be classified as PORN and be banned from general release.

So the directors don't tell. Neither do the actors. Action.

In Europe, I have the impression audiences aren't really bothered by genuine sex in a movie, other than showing actual penetration.
Whether it's real or not isn't a question because it's secondary to the story.

In the USA if audiences knew much of the sex in films was real, conservative groups would be marching on Hollywood.

I've seen too many clips of naked co-stars thrusting groin to groin to believe the man was flaccid slapping his limp dick against a spread wide pussy.:fuckin:

I always thought Michael Douglas was really banging Glen Close in Fatal Attraction. If not then I guess they really are just super great actors cause it really looked real to me. There are others as well but that's always the first one that pops into my head.

I think audiences appreciate depiction of sex in a film as real rather than compromised by obvious faking and artificial cover-ups. Whether it's actually real or not doesn't really matter as you say.

First of all the rating system on DVD films in the UK means that films may be marked as "...contains Real sex..." in the warnings box e.g. Baise Noir, Lust and Caution etc.

For the UK at least the censors are bound by national laws and guidelines but can still be overridden by local authority decisions.

My view is that European/World cinema has a much healthier attitude to the depiction of sex in life as natural rather than the double-standard Victorian artifice that sex is dirty/vile etc. In the British system having to watch the actors in a bedroom scene conducting intricate origami with the bedsheets in order to conceal a nipple that may bring the moral downfall of a nation just detracts from the credibility of the whole thing.

I had never heard of The Brown Bunny before today. I don't know if this is Giovanni's source but it is a list of 10 mainstream films with explicit sex although most has been simulated, or body-doubles used for scenes with explicit sex, but there are a few that are genuine like Brown Bunny.
The list includes: Brown Bunny, Intimacy, Baise-Moi, Antichrist, The Idiots, Caligula, 9 Songs, Ken Park, Cruising, Pola X.
-beware as the site has a lot of pop-ups-
http://whatculture.com/film/10-mainstream-films-with-unsimulated-sex-acts.php

In addition, without thinking too hard about it, I could name
Ai No Corrida (Oshima, 1976) -I don't believe the scenes were simulated, except for the castration;
not really mainstream but Chantal Akerman's Ju, Tu, Il, Elle (1976) has an explicit lesbian scene.
there is a semi-erect penis belonging to Eva Robin's -one of the most beautiful transexuals ever, in Mascara (Patrick Conrad, 1987),
and an erect penis in Derek Jarman's Sebastiane (1976).

Not sure how explicit or if body doubles are used but there is an obvious contender in
Nine and a Half Weeks (Adrian Lyne, 1986).
There is an explicit scene in Against All Odds (Taylor Hackford, 1984), with Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward.

Not sure how it was done but the sex in Damage (Louis Malle 1992) looks convincing even if it is Jeremy Irons, ah, but Juliette Binoche...

And there is one short moment of a man masturbating in Atom Egoyan's The Adjuster (1991).

Elizabeth Olsen, little sister of the Olsen Twins...(Beth is on the far right), had a sex scene in the movie 'Oldboy'.

Are all these clips unsimulated sex? Probably not.
But what's the point in having to adult actors nude with their groins pressed together and not allow them to fuck?? My latest Hollyweird conspiracy. Cause they're fucking.lol

You're assuming they'd actually want to and presumably they're producing their sex test certificates prior to the shoot?

Awww schucks - real life getting in the way again

Surely just from a practical point of making a film it might mean waiting for 10 minutes for someone to come, if not longer than that, and that means using up film, and disrupting the narrative flow the film. If anything you might ask if the sex is not actually part of the meaning of the film, as it is, for example in Damage, or McQueen's Shame, why is it even there? Some of the suggestions of sex in the classic hollywood films with Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart are more erotically charged, I think, whereas these days it is just schoolboy prurience, and a desire to see a desirable woman with her clothes off, and even after so much 'permissiveness' in most films most of the time the man wears more clothing in sex than the woman.

Are you suggesting on the available evidence it ought to have been called Pink is the warmest colour?

a couple of comments...

brown bunny is a terrible movie. the bj scene is what it is, but it is surrounded by terrible material, writing, performances...shit...i bet even the key grips and best boys were functionally retarded.

baise-moi is really porn with a violent story line to it. the rape scenes in it are really no different than porn except it is wrapped up in the idea of art.

rumor has it that in eyes wide shut, tomtom and nicole kidman were really fucking but since we all know that tomtom is gayer than little richard's underpants, it is probably just a rumor.

my favorite simulated sex scenes in big-budget hollywood fare have always been the puppet sex in Team America and when michael douglas backdoors jeanne tripplehorn in basic instinct. there are many other noteworthy performances but those are my favorites

I agree with RallyCola, Brown Bunny had one thing going for it when it came out years ago.

wrong. it was the source of one of the best back and forth arguments between arguably one of the best film critics and one of the biggest (self-confessed) assholes of our generation

also, how could you guys not appreciate a guy riding a motorcycle round and round for ten minutes? haters
