Had great range. He really made me laugh in Boogie Knights too.

His first work was in a Law & Order. Really like to see that episode.

Found dead in an apartment on Bethune St in the West Village. Apparently he managed to give up drugs and alcohol and had been dry for 23 years, but couldn't keep away from heroin and went into rehab last year. Leaves a wife and three young children.
A fine actor, who will be missed by many.

'twister" was the role when i first took notice of him.

I noticed him before I knew him in films and would have those, "Who is that guy? He's awesome!" kinda moments. After awhile I knew who the great Philip Seymour Hoffman was.

I first noticed him in the Big Lebowski in a small role. Then I saw him in The Talented Mr. Ripley. He was always perfect for whatever role he played, whether big or small. Sad loss.

The Talented Mr Ripley could have been a really good film, it was awesome to see Hoffman nail that role.

Sad sad sad news. He was a terrific talent. One of the best of today's actors. And way too young to die. RIP

He was great in Boogie Nights and great in The Big Lebowski as well. Just a fantastic character actor. I agree, his range was amazing, that is truly sad that he has died.

Never saw him give a bad performance. Unforgettable in Capote, Jack Goes Boating, Doubt, and so many others including his brief but hilarious bit in Along Came Polly where he introduced me to the term "shart"!

We should be grateful for what they were able to share with us while they were here. Lenny Bruce, Janis, Belushi, Jerry Garcia...and the list goes on of incredibly gifted people taken from us by their dance with this Demon.
Very sad to lose someone of his amazing range and talent.
He obviously excelled as Capote and in Doubt and Lebowski and basically any other part he played no matter how small, but my favorite role of his was as the CIA guy in Charlie Wilson's War

This is one of the last photos taken of Hoffman at the Sundance film festival (Feb. 2, 2014). It's pretty haunting imho. It's a tintype for anyone curious.

I'm very sad to hear about Hoffman's passing. He was in a bunch of artsy-fartsy films I didn't care for, but I'll always remember his performance as the sadistic Owen Davian in Mission Impossible III. One of the few times where I legitimately hated the movie's villain and wanted to see him get his comeuppance at the end. R.I.P. to another talented soul who lost his battle with demons.

He also gave another great performance in Sidney Lumet's Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Such a sad loss. RIP, Phil.

And a bit spooky as he plays a heroin addict in the film -makes one wonder if he was acting in those scenes or doing it for real! Not everyone likes the film by the way. I thought it had its moment but was a let down at the end.
