Is it worth going to Rio for Carnival?

I have a question to the locals in Rio and anyone who has visited during Carnival. Is it worth going to see Carnival with the higher cost of hotels and the tourists or would you pick a different time?

Am a bit gutted but going for 2/3 weeks next time!
