There are only six more days until Christmas. I'm pretty sure that there's an older thread of a similar nature, but I couldn't find it, so I'm starting a new one. Traditional, pop, classical, rock, religious or non...post 'em if you like 'em. Here are a few from the Phil Spector Christmas album.

Actually, this should be about it's XMAS! What fucking song would you like to bin for Xmas?

Well here it is Merry Xmas?

When the snowman brings the snow?

Merry Xmas, darling, wherever you are?

It's the people in retail I feel sorriest for. Squeezed into garish Christmas jumpers, crammed into Santa hats or those fucking antlers and after that they have to endure those utterly awful Christmas songs on a 24 hour loop.

Christmas is hell.

Greg Lake. The song's sentiments pretty well match mine and the song is, well, so gloriously over the top, especially the mad outro.

Ben, that Bowie/Crosby song definitely takes the prize for strangest duet ever. It's a cult classic that has spawned a couple of homages.

Christmas is hell.

What about us shoppers? The Tesco in town is a nightmare -every year that damn song by Slade, the whining emptiness of talentless John Lennon, the bland bawling of Bing, and the others, no wonder their alcohol section is crammed with desperate looking people. It's a deliberate sales tactic.

Luckily, because it is so rarely played, this version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas exposes the lack of talent in most of Judy Garland's contemporaries and successors -the hint of despair, fatigue, the intonation and breath control and expressiveness is almost disturbing in its authenticity -you wont find any such talent in smooth-as-chocolate-sauce Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald.

Enjoy!

A few minutes after I post a link to a singer, Dan, you plumb the depths with this, I mean, really! It doesn't even work as satire. And I thought you had taste.

Umm. What do I say? You probably get one cycle of the awful tinsel trash. The poor sods who work in there gradually have their sanity broken by listening to McCartney's truly appalling "Wonderful Christmas Time" once an hour, every hour.

Maybe we should post the worst Christmas songs. If we can stand the pain, that is.

OK, so Maxpower just posted it, but you can never have too much of The King:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kISmy0vvOGY

That's what my Chrimbo is going to be: blue. Thank fuck I'll be able to knock myself out on booze and whatever Grade-A drugs I can get my hands on, so that way I won't have to think about the woman I love having fun while I'm down in the dumps.

And on that joyous note, I'll shuffle over to the drinks cabinet and hit the whiskey. Slaynt!

The Vandals - Oi! To The World - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKk-2Pu2N8g)

Haji was a punk just like any other boy
And he never had no troubles 'til he started up his Oi band,
safe in the garage or singing in the tub.
Till Haji went to far and he plugged in at the pub

Twas a cold Christmas eve when Trevor and the skins
popped in for a pint and to nick a bag of crisps
Trevor liked the music but not the Unity
So he unwound Haji's turban and knocked him to his knees

If god came down on Christmas Day
I know exactly what he'd say
He'd say "Oi to the punks and Oi to the skins-
but Oi to the world and everybody wins!"

Haji was a bloody mess, he ran out through the crowd
he said "we'll meet again we are bloodied yet unbowed"
Trevor called his bluff and told him where to meet
Christmas day on the roof down 20 Oxford street

If god came down on Christmas Day
I know exactly what he'd say
He'd say "Oi to the punks and Oi to the skins-
but Oi to the world and everybody wins!"

On the roof with the nunchucks Trevor broke a lot of bones
But Haji had a sword like the guy on Indiana Jones

Police sirens wailing, a bloody dying man,
Haji was alone and abandoned by his band
Trevor was there fading and still so full of hate
when the skins left him there and went down the fire escape

But then Haji saw the north star shining more then ever
So he made a tourniquet from his turban saving Trevor
and rapelled off the roof with the rest of the turban
and went back to the pub where they bought each other bourbon

If god came down on Christmas Day
I know exactly what he'd say
He'd say "Oi to the punks and Oi to the skins-
but Oi to the world and everybody wins!"
