OK, so I've been working with different video formats and resolutions and was trying to figure out the best quality/file size ratio. What do you all prefer? How large a file is too large and what's the lowest resolution you'll tolerate?

Start with the best resolution and base your frame rate on whatever you're shooting (60 or higher for action, 24 or 30 for film-like and slow stuff). You can always compress the file down and make a lower rez version afterwards, but keep your full size one.
For web, I think 1280x720 seems to be the standard these days for download.

Thanks. I always shoot in higher res than the intended end product, and I understand what LOOKS best (although 60fps seems a bit on the high side - they're only now starting to shoot movies in this format), but again, I'm really trying to determine how large a file is too large. I have some videos approaching 20 minutes, and I think they're too large even at 720 and 30fps, especially when full-length HD movies can be rendered to only take a half a GB of disk space.

Any other thoughts on this guys? How large is the largest porn file you've ever downloaded and how long was it?

i have found that 960x540 makes the file considerably smaller and no one complains about the quality...make sure your audio is 128kbps and not 256 as well. i also found out the hard way that you have to make sure the video is deinterlaced....ugh lol
