Anytime a pitcher makes me miss Tom Gordon, you know its time to let em go.

The Yankees have stumbled of late because of offensive impotence and pitching that has returned to where many thought it would exist this season. Chien-Ming Wang's effort Monday shows his true identity: a pitcher who wins when his pitches are hit at fielders and is ineffective when they aren't. Without a high strikeout total, Wang's results are too dependent on luck. No one expects Jaret Wright to regularly pitch five shutout innings like he did Tuesday, and Randy Johnson needs to improve from awful (5.62 ERA) to average. Mike Mussina can keep pitching the way he has (2.57 ERA).

As for the offense, it should recover from the recent slumps of Jason Giambi and Alex Rodriguez, but it won't reach the heights it might have before Hideki Matsui broke his wrist. That said, Gothamist has no idea why Terrance Long is on the team (the Royals, of all teams, released Monday's callup). If it were up to Gothamist, Melky Cabrera and Andy Phillips would see more time at the expense of Bernie Williams. Alas, it's up to Joe Torre, and Williams will continue to play as long as he has a pulse. Randy Johnson faces Boston's Matt Clement on Wednesday.

Did you hear the Yanks are looking at Dontrell Willis.
Now that would be a good addition!

Another C+ performance by the "big enuch". Not being hard on him, just wishing he's provide the big games he was brought here for.

well hes just showing us how old he really is. he was never a accurate pitcher, just one who could throw 95+. Batters see 90-91 all the time, so you need to be able to change speep and hit you spots if you cant throw over 92, and he cant do that. his fastball is flat and his slider is incosistant. that pitch he threw to Manny was BATTING PRATICE(but then again Manny is just anally rapin the yankees since he came to boston)

on the trade note I would love havin willis on the yankees, but there are too many problems in the way.one is the yankees are OLD and with all the injuries, the yankees cant afford to trade away anymore of their farm talent. Gary sheffield is near 40, matsui, giambi and posada are in their mid thirties, damon is 32, jeter 31, arod 30. only starter under thirty is cano. and their pitching is even older. if they canpick up willis without giving up too much, im all for it, just gotta think of the whole future not just the next 2 years. alot of peice may be gone after then and if the evil empire wants to stay at the top, they cant afford to give up players of the future for one or two players like theyve been doing.

agreed!!!! he might make upwards of $10 mil for half a season. Lucky mofo, hopefully if he doesnt pick the yankees he goes to the astros so we wont have to face him until maybe the world series, especially if hes anywhere close to his form from last year.
