Tranny Awards 2013 - Have YOUR say!

Last years show went so well and was seemingly so well received, that we're going to be emulating a lot of it yet trying to iron our the few wrinkles to get it even better and I'd appreciate feedback from those who were there or participated.

The Categories:

I'm working on changing a few of the categories based on feedback from last year and may have a separate ebony category (thoughts?) as well as some other more inclusive categories for models as the current ones could be expanded on and the Best Non-Typical is confusing. Your thoughts on this? I don't want to extend to different countries specifically though.

Any other categories? I know this has been covered before but I'd be interested in feedback now.

The Night/Weekend:

Ideally working for the same night (Sunday of President's Weekend) and the same venue.
Issues with the venue which need to be sorted out was the lack of bar staff and the amount of time it took to get a drink.
We're also considering more theatre type seating on the tiers so more people can seat (big problem last year) while keeping the sponsors tables at the front as they were this year. We will plan on having the show on the Sunday only - and working on the afterparty for the Monday which seemed popular last year. So the show would run approx. from 8pm to 12/12.30pm.

Would people like to have a show suggested hotel that they could use?

Sounds awesome. This year's event was amazing, despite the issues with the bar and seating. Categories: maybe Best Latin and Best Asian as separate categories, since they are such major sectors of the niche? Really though I wouldn't want to add too many categories as there are quite a few already.

Lets not break categories up to sub categories or by race, there are too many as it is. Just like Non Typical if we start breaking it up then we will have 100 categories like AVN. IF a girl can't win then no use to keep breaking up categories so everyone can win LOL

It was on the ballot (as it could be seen on this website) - it just wasn't printed in the program - that's the only place the confusion arose. All judges had the correct lists.

That's a good question and it's for a number of reasons.
a) These awards are about the models and the content producers and used to honor them. The websites (and the companies who own them) are sponsors of the award and therefore the issues of them being sponsors AND nominees would bring too many questions of legitimacy in (see AVN awards!!!).

b) I think Grooby sites would have a very good chance of winning - and as we're the main contributor both financially AND in the organization of the show then again, the questions of legitimacy are just too much to deal with. One company already got miffed on a show years ago when Hazel Tucker and Buddy Wood cleaned up the show, even though all votes were from nobody associated with Grooby. I've also stayed in-partial to the judging panel since year 1, although I might take a role this year.

c) Sponsorship and the costs to the awards. Frankly, with the amount of money we and other sponsors invest in getting this show running, then in the unlikely event a non-sponsor won and award, it would piss me off completely. I don't think this would happen as the one company who refuse to get involved don't seem to be putting the same efforts into their sites as they used to.

As the Urban X Awards appears to have died, we'd be accommodating part of that.

I don't think there are enough toy companies producing TS toys for us to really bring in that as a category realistically?

Yeah I agree there are tons of different races. It's not like a guaranteed win or anything. Lots of lady boys, Brazilians, African Americans, etc. It wouldn't be fair if only one race won (in my opinion at least).

I understand how you feel as I've stayed away from it for 5 yrs but I think the addition of extra categories in those areas would help the show have a wider reach and exposure as well as the benefit of the extra awards.

I think we sort of covered that in regards to best custom, or best dressed as you call it. Plus I think having that sort of an award is like saying to the ones who don't win, "Hey, you didn't look good enough tonight". I think an award like that would just anger some of the girls. "Like some would be like, "How did she win, she looks like trash" and so on. Could start a brawl for all we know - lol
It's bad enough at these awards that twitter fights go on after and while the show is going on. The twitter battle between Kelly Clare and Britney Markham last year was a whopper of a read. Britney is one of the best in my opinion. When it comes to looks and putdowns - lol

I 100% agree with you. This is a 3 day weekend event. We all don't have sugar daddys....lol. I am more then willing to help get an official hotel that is tranny / gay friendly and can accomodate us and people can be in one location and have drinks at hotel lobby bar and socialize and go to pool during the day and cuase this is an EVENT. Its a part of the event planning. Too provide a PROMO code and people make there OWN reservations....you would not be held responsible...you are not a travel agent. The PROMO code will give them a discounted room and accomodate these out of towners which is suppose to be the goal to have people besides LA come to Tranny Awards. A bus could always take people to and from awards....but again if they miss the bus your not babysitting....they will have to be an adult and figure out how to get to awards. This is only a part of promotion and will make people book and go to the event. Everyone wants conveience and quickness now a days they don't want to search online they wanna click on a link and BAM make there reservation and DONE your the winner cause you just sold people to come to the awards weekend of events. I am in the event planning business and this type of thing is always done. Like when you get invited to someones wedding out of town they block rooms for you and give you a promo code to make your hotel reservation and usually have transportation to get to the wedding / church / reception...cause why??? people want to DRINK and have fun and not worry about drinking and driving and got forbid we hear of a porn star in a deadly crash going back to hotel cause she drank to much and celebrated her winning. Its a Celebration my friend...and it involves partying, drinking and dancing. I could easily speak to a Hotel on behaf and use my knowledge of doing these things and get a discounted hotel and official Tranny Awards Hotel. Shit I could get an airline to give us discounted rates also...a promo code....its very easy. I work with a travel agent that does these things and makes these connections. Its nothing scray or babysitting its provinding servce and promotion to only DRAW people to come to this 3 day event weekend holiday. You are not responsible for anything!! People make there own reservations. The hotel wins and makes money ...you win and get more people and make more money to cover many expenses. This is fact information. This is the process of doing events which is what this is...its more then just an award....its 3 days of people lives and money and time and part vacation holiday.

If you book X amount of rooms hotels give the client some FREE rooms and upgrades. I claim the FREE rooms.....LOL!!

They then set up a link and promo code to get the INSTANT discount and YOU book your OWN reservation. Grooby or whomever will then know if they need 1 bus or 2 bus etc.... by reservations booked and PAID for by customers. Everyone can then drink and have fun and not worry about parking or getting a DWI. Its that easy and TOTALLY makes sense!! Does it not?

Well from the sound of things you know what you're talking about when it comes to this sort of stuff. So why not do this on your own. Just because it's the Grooby awards, doesn't really mean you have to have their permission, does it? As far as I see, I would think they would be grateful for any extra help they can get. So long as it's beneficial for all. Like I said, why not just do some asking and see what you can come up with. From what I understand, seanchai gave a list last year of some hotels that where good choices in the area. My advice would be to call some of these places and see if a deal can be done. Then call about the shuttles to and from the event/after party. Maybe once you have some solid info and pricing, perhaps seanchai will be more inclined to give his take on everything. Or at the least put the info on the Tranny Awards Website, for those to see that don't go to this forum....

How about web-voted categories? Have a web site just so fans can vote for someone in each category or at least one category.
BTW, how is the voting structure currently setup? Is there a panel of judges or is it done by sales?

It's usually fan nominations for finalists then Industry panel voting.

Last year there was a web based vote for fan's choice.

Last years show went so well and was seemingly so well received, that we're going to be emulating a lot of it yet trying to iron our the few wrinkles to get it even better and I'd appreciate feedback from those who were there or participated.

The Categories:

I'm working on changing a few of the categories based on feedback from last year and may have a separate ebony category (thoughts?) as well as some other more inclusive categories for models as the current ones could be expanded on and the Best Non-Typical is confusing. Your thoughts on this? I don't want to extend to different countries specifically though.

Any other categories? I know this has been covered before but I'd be interested in feedback now.

The Night/Weekend:

Ideally working for the same night (Sunday of President's Weekend) and the same venue.
Issues with the venue which need to be sorted out was the lack of bar staff and the amount of time it took to get a drink.
We're also considering more theatre type seating on the tiers so more people can seat (big problem last year) while keeping the sponsors tables at the front as they were this year. We will plan on having the show on the Sunday only - and working on the afterparty for the Monday which seemed popular last year. So the show would run approx. from 8pm to 12/12.30pm.

Would people like to have a show suggested hotel that they could use?


Please give me feedback - especially from those that were there.

Only problem I saw was that the Bar area was too small for the amount of people that actually showed up....Luckily i had a table with the boys but still it was rough.
