Tsk tsk. The sign originates from the Middle Ages, when English longbowmen, who used both index and middle fingers, would have those digits chopped off were they captured by the enemy (in this case the French). Unmolested bowmen would wave their fingers at the the enemy to say 'Fuck you--and when this arrow hits, you're dead meat, fucker.'

Some people say this tale is apocryphal. I say, who the fuck cares? It's a great yarn...In any case it's many centuries older than the peace sign...

I wasn't saying the peace sign was first, I was just differentiating between the two because they are similar, and maybe not as many people over here are familiar with the British "fuck you."

I had no idea about it till Eva told me while we were shooting this set... the photo I posted only happened because we were talking about that very subject as we were shooting... so we threw one in for fun.
