While I am full on Metal its not the only thing I do - we just did a 6 city blues tour in spring where we took my usual songs and changed them up to a more swampy slithering blues style. The rule with writing a song is if it dont sound good when you play it quiet covering it up with a bunch of distortion and volume is only going to make matters worse.

A song need to sound good on its own, everything else is just window dressing.
