I don't think so. Unless there's feces in the rectum, a freshly cleaned ass shouldn't smell bad. And if it was cleansed inside, no way it should smell anything bad but the natural smell of the person (not of shit, to put things bluntly).

I'm pretty sure that when I douche and shower afterward that mine doesn't taste or smell like anything but my lotion, maybe. :)

it could be a number of things: either she has very bad hygiene, a very strong odor etc. it's impossible to know simply with the description "it didn't smell right". maybe she was fine and you just got paranoid and believed you were smelling something that wasn't right.

either way, how did they evening end? did you just hold your nose and smash or did you give her the gas face?
