I don't want to talk for them, but I have a hunch what the ladies are expressing in such a sarcastic way, is that they are people like any others, and that you should try to meat a girl because of who she is rather than because she is a transsexual woman. You can understand why it would be at least a little annoying for them; they, like anybody else, want to be appreciated for themselves, exactly as much as you are.

Being 19 you are kind of screwed, easiest place is in a Tgirl friendly bar but you are a few years away from doing that legally.
You can try to search craigslist in your area, see if there is a club for LGBT people under 21. Don't think a church dance is a place to go so it isn't going to be easy.
