Wanted to wait until I retrieved the corpses before posting. Any left are now dead in the bushes.

A little over a week ago I was outside then saw something scurry past my foot. Was thinking, "Why does that water bug have a tail?" Well it wasn't a bug nor any kind of insect at all but a baby rat.

A couple days later I see the family with mommy as well. She saw me then ran up on top of a shed with her babies fleeing by jumping to the trees then running up the branches. This really made me angry. Little upset at my lazy feline death squad that is supposed to patrol. I made an adjustment.

Next day I fed the cats about 5 hours later than normal. Heard the symphony of death but not total genocidal yet as I still saw the mother the day after that with one baby. The next day I put just enough food to lure the hungry cats out also making the remaining rats expose themselves becoming hungry as well. Glad to report everything took care of itself and the cats' bellies were completely full. Tomorrow I reward them with rotisserie chicken. Momma Rat looks like she was in a torture porn. Don't cross the boss, bitch.

BTW, checked on Pepe le Pew this afternoon. Opened up the lid of the can and my eyes practically melted. When I could see again I determined he was a jerk in life but an excellent host in death.

Sorry Amy. I promise to only operate within my jurisdiction. Keep your rats in Washington DC where they belong.

Fair enough. If Mama-Rat In Chief wanders over my way I'll pounce on the bitch myself.

Sounds like you've solved the problem. Unless Big Daddy Rat finds out....

With a threat like that I might wear this... but only if you promise to bring some cheese!

I'll dome that rat with a whiskey bottle. Better chance the rodent is caught up on his shots more than I am. I do not give a single, solitary fuck.

Best thread yet, fuckin' AWESOME!

There used to be acres and acres of open land up the Bronx where I grew up...before my time you could hunt pheasants there but when I was a kid it was like rat heaven...but we made it HELL ON EARTH for the rats with our BB guns (and later, shot guns) blasting their rat asses...find some rat holes and drop some M-80's in there BOOM rat shit flying!

This thread makes me sad. I'm going to go curl up with some cheese and watch Willard. You all suck... not in the good way.

Jack Russells are great dogs and smart as heck too. I was raised with cats around me and grew to like and appreciate their talents. I find their behavior somewhat predictable even when they are feral. It was my fault making them lazy. A minor adjustment made everything like clockwork again.

Saw my Orange Tabby this morning, praised him, and gave him his reward. He backs away when I come then gets his food when I walk away and go behind the gate. He's done a good job for me for over 8 years.

My cats are totally useless with mice, let alone rats. One brought on in the house recently then just sat and watched it... making me deal with it.

Sorry to hear that, sir. I'm sure they have their unique charm though. Maybe borrow Robert Louis' cat for a week. I remember that cat as a kitten and it should be young and spry eager to hunt by now.

Still good companions. Cats just aren't cats unless they are a little like brats. I wouldn't want a cat to be like a Labrador Retriever as a Lab does the best job playing itself. I've had countless cats as pets and found them all to be characters and different like snowflakes.

Cats are great pets. I bow to Amy in accepting that, if she is serious, rats may well be great pets too. I saw some at a pet's trade show a few years back - beautiful white things running all over their owners. I guess rats have had a bad press what with the Black Death and the Bubonic Plague and all....

I felt bad when I saw Amy's post. Keeps giving that look that you know she doesn't approve.

I'm sorry, Amy.

Rats are awesome pets. HIGHLY intelligent and very loving. They also love to crawl on your shoulders and nibble your ears. :)
