View Full Version : How accurate is Wikipedia?

Was I too harsh???

I had a potential model call me at 5:50 am to grill me on why I'm not listed as a producer on Grooby Productions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grooby_Productions).

So after being in stunned disbelief that she really called me that early with something so stupid, I tried to explain that Wikipedia is a user updated database and not accurate. There were probably more than 15 producers associated with Grooby.

"Yea, that's what it looks like, but your name isn't listed. How can I verify that you're associated with Grooby?"

You can Google 'radius dark grooby' and figure it out maybe?

"I did that, the only thing that comes up is your website, radiusdark.com."

So, after I hung up on her, I looked at the Wikipedia page and it explains:

Grooby Productions works exclusively with a number of producers, photographers and directors specific to the transsexual niche. Tony Vee has been with the company for over 10 years and is one of the more celebrated photographers of transgender women, being the first to discover Allanah Starr and inaugural Tranny Awards winner Chrissy.[11] Buddy Wood has produced all his titles under Grooby Productions including AVN Nominated "Shemale Superstars", "Shemale Cuties Who Love It Up Their Booties" & "Shemale Email",[12] starring transsexual porn actresses including Vicki Richter, Danielle Foxxx, Alexis Saige, Yasmin Lee & Khloe Hart. One of his most popular releases is "Hazel Does Hollywood" starring his prodigy and muse, Hazel Tucker. Other notable producers include Frank, Louie Damazo and PK Vegas (Lucia Matthews). The Commander, now semi-retired, was the first photographer to produce original content for the site.

First of all, Lucia Matthews is not PK Vegas. Second of all, there are no where near 15 producers listed.

Third of all, the google search 'radius dark grooby' produces a page on grooby.com that references me.

It takes quite a person to call me before six in the morning to question my integrity and lie while doing so. Fuck of my phone...

At this point, it's time to change my number.

Check out previews of one of my favorite models that I shot for Grooby, Sienna Grace!

You identify both the strength and the weakness of Wikipedia -as long as the authors have good intentions, and are accurate it is a useful reference, but every so often if you check something on a subject you actually know well, you may see some inaccuracy and that can shake your faith in it. Some entries have been edited for malicious reasons, rather like the historian Orlando Figes who invented a name for himself and wrote nasty reviews on amazon of books on his own subject (Russian history) while praising his own.
Treat with caution. Or, check a Wikipedia article on a subject you know well and take it from there. In addition, I don't think 'Buddy Wood' is a real name...but I could be wrong. On the other hand, I don't think there is anything stopping you creating a Wikipedia page on yourself...

all she had to do was email grooby and ask for your contact details ... no brainer for a model to do unless they are completely retarded ..

I do use it but with caution. In areas that I know I see both accurate info and total farce. Would I use info from it in a board discussion - yes, would I in a business presentation where my rep is on the line - no.

Sienna is a cool gal; hung out with her (and smith) at Oxwood last week.

And calling PK Lucia? THAT'S funny!

Stavros...what do you mean Buddy Wood isn't a real name?? lol What does that have to do with anything? You think he was born with the name Radius Dark?? lol

This is a pretty fair write up of Grooby circa 2007-2008. It certainly needs an update.

Lucia worked for P.K. Now there is no P.K. and only Lucia so...even that almost makes sense.

Sienna shoot looks awesome!!!

Fair enough, but in my naivete I saw the word porn and then wood and made an eccentric connection, no offence intended...

I was wondering why we hadn't heard from PK in such awhile...

And I swear his drivers license said Dark Radius...

Wikipedia is Walmart for information. Plenty good enough for one-stop shop as long as your standards aren't very discriminatory. Aren't the actual Wikipedia volumes made in China? Never home when the guy knocks on my door trying to sell me a set.

It's made by people online, of course. And I think there's very few people to oversee or supervise it. The best is still Britanica, of course, for really accurate infos. But still, I find it great to have it at hand at all time. It gives you a good sense of what is talked about on any topic and point in the right direction for the very least.
In French we have the highly regarded Encyclopoedia Universalis, but it's sometimes so vain, so full of showcasing and in the end, often so abstruse that I almost prefer something like Wiki. Most of the time you don't need in depth infos anyways...

colleges and universities do not allow you to use wiki as a authority or factual source because anyone can edit its contents

Oh! no, indeed, Natina. You're absolutely right. That's a whole different thing. Wiki is for fast researches, for when you want to be enlighten on some subject immidiately. It's not scholarly. A Wiki page is never exhaustive enough anyways.

A good wiki page has a wide range of references and links, sometimes to web-pages of pdf files of articles and so on. I don't know if students are not allowed to cite them in course work here, it would be odd in a way because some of those pages are written by academics.

It's true that the references are sometimes very impressive. Definitely sufficent, often, for a good base if not a thourough one for a reaserch on a given topic. But the articles often change through time, they're modified, political rectitude being one of the frequent motives. Also, I think Wikipedia only has a few dozen people supervizing these changes and the publication of the articles. As a tool, it's fabulous; as an academic reference, it's normal that there would be some reservations, I suppose.
Personaly, I use it a lot, generally speaking, but especially when I read specialized articles, in order to find explanations on particulars which are essential for the comprehension of the whole.

Sienna Grace deserves a thread all to herself, she's that stunning. Radius, where do you find all the fantastic models you seem to get to first? And most of them seem both brainy and beautiful judging by BTS interviews, twitter, etc. So maybe the smart ones know how to google and find you while the dumb ones kind of crash and burn. But seriously, what are your scouting secrets to finding these amazing girls?

I usually find them, or they email Seanchai. The only model that found me, that I've shot with, is Sophia Ghest.

Almost all of the models are fun to talk to and have deep thoughts.

I'll create a Sienna thread.

Umm, just a suggestion here but since Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, perhaps some of you Grooby people might want to make a few contributions to your page?

I did a few days ago - surprised anyone hasn't noticed yet. If you're doing major changes you have to cite sources (usually magazines).
