View Full Version : So What Do You Think Of Free Stuff On Counters?

So, I was standing in line at the bank today waiting to deposit the massive check I received from people donating to the "Keep Krissy Alive Fund". The bank had these little dishes of hard candies put out on the counter. The person in front of me (and I'm not trying to be stereotypical here... this is true) was an obese, middle-aged woman who really didn't need any more candy.

While she was waiting for the teller to finish up the transaction, she took her purse, making no attempt at all to be discreet, and proceeded to empty the dish of candy into it. The teller just kind of stared at her and the lady proceeded to say rather loudly, "Well, if you don't want people to take them, don't put them out there." She then took her receipt and walked out... leaving us, standing in line, and the teller rather dumbstruck.

Does she have a point though?

Politeness is normally the way by which we chose to deal with one another; it's a conventional code, of course, but put in place a long time ago. When someone seems totally impervious to it, it's normal to be shocked. Think about it: without any of it, we would all want to kill each others continually...
The answer is NO, in my opinion she didn't, Krissy.

(Btw, politeness is conventional in its forms, but a behavioral code is phylogenetically inscribe in us...)

The code doesn't prevent me from thinking about killing everybody..or wanting to...but it does help prevent me from actually doing it. Well,... that and not wanting to be raped in prison by Vic Morrow. Like in "The Glass House".

She does, and I had a guy I work with say the same thing as he took a handful of Peppermint patties. Free is free, but greediness is so rude!

Fred, these are fine and accurate observations. I'm putting them in my little book of facts! :)

Hey Krissy, were the candies wrapped or unwrapped? If they were unwrapped then take solace in the fact that dishes left out for "all" to help themselves usually are filthy, bacterial ridden petri dishes because (some) people don't wash their hands after using the facilities. If they were wrapped then she obviously is uncouth & lacks any sense of decorum.

Wrapped. They were just those white and red mints... Nothing even fancy or particularly tasty.

Does she have a point though? You're one helluva comedienne, Krissy, in addition to being very attractive. I like the idea of the "Keep Krissy Alive Fund" that seems to have sailed past some of the others.

Shame......it would have been poetic justice had they been unwrapped. But judging by your description she's a sloth and will probably turn into one of those people so obese they need a power chair to get around in. It's called Karma.:praying:

So later shell be gorging herself on all those free candies - with fluff from her pocketbook stuck to them. What a sad life she must lead... to be pitied as much as anything.

I have no idea what you're talking about. People donate to me just to keep me alive. That wasn't a joke and I can't believe you would think such. For penance, please go make a sizable donation immediately.

Some manners are supposed to be assumed. They need to chain the candies down for that lady like the pens because she is an ignoramus.

I see this one escort who pretty much has a concession stand in her place. Nice touch by a very nice lady. When I take 2 Twix bars she says take more so I grab another 4. I would never do that unless she made it clear.

If it was a pinkie instead of a thumb I wouldn't have made a federal case out of it. Her hands were as cold as her heart too.
