It's at a different location though. Santa Monica Blvd and N. Western Ave. smack dab in the middle of...well, LA folks know.

I won't be there since I'll be stuck at work. Dammit...

I'm glad I won't have to trek to the Valley anymore for my tgirl needs! And it's in East Hollywood. Don't get me wrong, I love that Cobra is cleaner than it used to be, but I miss some of the sketch. Bring on the Trolas! (tranny cholas!)

On my last visit to LA (can't believe it was 10 years ago but it was) I decided to go to Peanuts, paid a small fortune to get from the place where I was working (in the forlorn eastern marches) only to discover I had got the wrong night and it was something called LA Men, which was of no interest. Paid $75 to stay in a motel run by an ageing queer Englishman off Santa Monica Blvd; the only positive memory was of a Thai restaurant across the road from Peanuts (and a bit further down) which was outstanding and good value too. The tv zapper in the motel was nailed down to the bedside table, and if you brought anyone into the room it was an extra $100. I paid a Mexican taxi driver $125 for a return journey only he never showed on the Sunday and when I called him (his name, incredibly, was Jesus) he said 'I give you good price' and when I told him I had paid for a return journey he said, again, 'I give you good price' -end of conversation. In any case there was a huge HIV/AIDS awareness march which meant there were no vehicles on Santa Monica Blvd for like 100 blocks starting at the posh end. I ended up walking up on to Sunset, and getting a taxi from some hotel which cost another small fortune. LA has its attractions but to outsiders who don't know the ins and outs, it can be very trying at times, so when Willie states: Santa Monica Blvd and N. Western Ave. smack dab in the middle of...well, LA folks know, I shudder to think what it means.

^ It just means that it's right in the middle of Latin Hollywood and it's a far sketchier hood than WeHo.

Um....I remember the internet being around ten years ago. Do you? L.A. is not as inaccessible and hard to navigate as people make it out to be. It's actually really easy given five minutes of research.

Problem is I don't drive and even if I did I am not sure I would feel comfortable driving around LA; there is some sort of bus service but the week I was there the workers were on strike so there weren't any on the road. Remember also that what for an American is a normal trip of 50-100 miles is a major event here. I am five minutes away from the centre of town where I live, LA is to me like 30 cities stuck together. Which is why I prefer San Francisco. And anyway what is 'a far sketchier hood'?? Do they have a lot of dry cleaning outlets there?

East Hollywood has always been a bit gritty. Back in the 70s, 80s, & 90s it was quite impoverished and that area of the city had a high crime rate. There was a lot of prostitution, pimps, drugs, filth, etc. There are efforts now toward gentrification, and there has been some progress. I live in East Hollywood and rather enjoy it. There is a huge mix of different cultures, Thai, Latin, Black, White, Hipsters, Armenians, Koreans, and just about any other culture one can think of. I like the diversity. There are many Thai restaurants within walking distance, a Metro subway, and Griffith Park. However, many people are still afraid of the area and it is misunderstood. I've gone to Club Tempo many times ( I used to live in Mexico and speak Spanish, so I feel comfortable in the neighborhood), but many of my friends are frightened for me when I tell them that I go to the bars or restaurants in that area of E. Hollywood. They are the same people who were frightened for me when I went to Mexico for a year to study Spanish. It is the usual fear of the unknown that seems to be natural for us humans. Crime still exists in E. Hollywood, but it isn't as bad as it was decades ago. Come to Club Tempo. You'll have fun.

No, The Blacklite isn't returning.

Seriously, I hope the place does well. Palms was just too far (and too expensive) for most folks. Hopefully Peanuts 3.0 will be a better value.

B-Dub, you'd BETTER keep that fresh talent rolling in and out!

nevada64
06-14-2013, 10:24 PM
Yes, the Blacklite is long gone unfortunately. Talk about gritty, but fun. The old Blacklite is now a hipster Cuban speakeasy which requires reservations to enter. I haven't been yet. I happened to be walking by one night when they first opened. I tried to enter, but the doorman wouldn't let me in since I didn't have a reservation. I was put off by that and have never tried to go again, although I should check it out. It sounds interesting. I've read that you enter a closet type space which has a secret door that opens up to a cool Cuban interior. I often see pretty young ladies out front smoking cigarettes in their skimpy attire when I drive by. But they aren't Tgirls like the Blacklite days....

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see it succeed. But the name Peanuts has so many negative connotations to LE because of its infamous prostitution. Word on the street is that the sheriffs recently raided The Palms (which is only a few miles away, although in a different jurisdiction), thereby scaring everyone away and forcing the bar to close. That's not exactly the best precedent for an endeavor like this.

I do wish them all the luck in the world. I suspect they'll need it, though.

They told me that the Palms closed b/c they're tearing everything down on that block to build condos. Palms wasnt a tgirl club but was a gay club with two tgirl nights. So if the tgirl nights were a problem wouldn't the venue just discontinue them instead of closing up shop completely?
I think peanuts will be fun and the location is more than ideal based on what ive seen in L.A. Things could get interesting here way more than at the palms which was in a basically all white entertainment district and had to prety much keep the lid on things and not allow the events to get too crazy. Now peanuts will be down the street from a notorious tgirl stroll. I'm not a payer but if I were then parking blocks away to go to peanuts would be in my best interest when looking to enjoy myself for the eve.

Beware of that murderer/thief who stalks Santa Monica blvd nightly though.

They told me that the Palms closed b/c they're tearing everything down on that block to build condos.

I heard that too, and I'm sure that was part of it. It's prime real estate and the lot next to it is already cleared. From a development perspective, that was my view of the situation until I heard about the working girl raid thing.

Palms wasnt a tgirl club but was a gay club with two tgirl nights. So if the tgirl nights were a problem wouldn't the venue just discontinue them instead of closing up shop completely?

Actually, it was an overpriced lesbian bar, so their business was already vulnerable. They didn't have a good promotional model. It was all word-of-mouth.

A trans nite has been tried here before, but quickly closed. We'll see what happens this time.

Trolas! That had me rolling over laughing!

I remember going there I think it was around 2006 maybe. I met a girl standing in line to get in. We hung out together in the club and went back to her place that night. I was there working in the area for about two weeks. We went out for dinner several times. She was a babe. Later I saw her on Shemale Yum which was a surprise.

I have to admit I was disappointed last night. I had never been to Tempo, and it was really small. Just not enough room for the creepy old dudes to lurk, so instead your just in a small crowd surrounded by them. The biggest disappointment though was NO stars! I wanna see legit porn stars! I'll keep supporting Aubrey and Cobra.

I'm sorry to hear that Wes. They must have not had the whole club open. When I've been to Tempo in the past, there were several rooms and bars. Two downstairs and two upstairs. One of the spaces upstairs is a covered outdoor area for smokers and they usually have a lady making tacos. I wasn't able to attend because of previous plans. I'll try to check it out next week and give a report. Thanks for your post.

^ Did not occur, but I didn't try very hard.

Re: Peanuts: I think I get why it was so small. There were literally two doors, and the doorman asked me if I was going to Peanuts or Tempo. So, there were two separate entrances, thus Peanuts was relegated to the smaller area I suppose.

nevada64
06-17-2013, 08:35 PM
Oh, I see Wes. Thanks for the details. It's too bad the whole club wasn't open to Peanuts and the place wasn't packed with beauties. Hopefully that will be the case soon. I'm still going to check it out.

Westheangelino

And I don't like that it separated the event from the usual clientele of Tempo. Unlike Cobra there wasn't a smattering of thuggish Latino gay boys who are sure to be some of the only people dancing. Basically there was a lack of energy in the room.

It was fun!! A little small but...come on...It's intimate!! ;-)

And yeah I think as it grows they might open up more...? I didn't really get that either.

All these things take time to build up. It was the first week!!!

There were plenty of girls there for a first week! Quite a few girls I've shot recently like Sofia Ferriera, Roxxy Thorns, (a new Korean girl that's gonna blow up but I can't remember her name right now...Yuri something) and Celeste was there!! I met 2 new models there which is always a good sign!!

I mean...what do u want? A blow job from Eva Lin and Vanity the moment you walk in the door?? lol

I'm talking to the guy that runs the joint about having some future DVD release parties there.

It was fun! I say..try to support all your local ts clubs if can and they will blossom!!

And, no I do not want a blow job from Eva Lin or Vanity when I walk in. I'd prefer being butt raped by Danni Daniels and Danika Dreamsz.

Loni Brown, remember her?, use to waitress at the old Peanuts.

I met Geneva [of Gina and Geneva TS sisters, don't know if they were but they did look a like] outside of Peanuts one night. I introduced myself and told her I was a fan and shook her hand. Incredibly soft hands.

Lisa Lawrence use to hang out at the restaurant down the street from Peanuts. She was kind of bitchy as I recall. Geneva much nicer.

I loved Peanuts - always a good crowd with pretty girls and lots of TS Porn Stars, made strong drinks that were priced fairly well, and was in a good location. I went home with Lisa Lawrence a couple times back in the day, and I always thought she was approachable and nice actually. Haven't made it to the new Peanuts yet but plan on going next week. Hope it picks up and a good crowd starts going. Now we need The Yukon to come back and it will be like the good ol' days lol!

Sorry, but that made me burst out in laughter. :D

Thanks babe. Sometimes reality offers the best humour, only I wasn't laughing at the time. On my first visit to LA in 1983, I stayed at the Cecil Hotel without knowing its reputation then or since, and hailed a taxi somewhere off Sunset to get me back around 1am. When the driver asked me where I was going I said the Cecil Hotel, and he made me pay $15 before getting into the cab, and when we got there I was hustled by a bum between the cab and the hotel lobby! The driver -realising I was a tourist (must have been my accent)- asked me if I had been to Disneyland, and seemed genuinely shocked when I said no. On my last trips to LA my taxi drivers, when not Hispanic were an Israeli, and an Ethiopian. Maybe we should start a thread on taxi drivers, they are capable of creating entire movies, after all....grrrr...(loving that leopard print dress, or is it cling film?)...

nevada64

Wow Stavros, The Cecil Hotel in 1983. Downtown LA was quite a pit back then. What an impression than must have made on you.

I often take cabs when I'm drinking. Most drivers don't mind conversing, and I find that the majority of them are from Armenia. Just an observation. It seems like a tough way to make a buck. They work 12 hours shifts and have to pay the cab company they work for, for use of the vehicle, gas and insurance. What ever is left over they take home. I recall a guy telling me he only makes about $40- $50 a day after all the fees etc.

I had never been to LA before and was travelling around the US and Canada on a Greyhound Bus -it was so hot when I arrived in LA (July) I saw this Hotel and wanted to get out of the heat, so I chose it, I also didn't know that part of downtown had a reputation...one lives and learns...

Yes, summers in L.A. are quite hot. It is my least favorite time of year here. The heat can be very oppressive, especially if one works outside. I'm always relieved when late October arrives. The winters here are mild, the air is cleaner, and it is, overall, very comfortable.

Prime Time Pub across the street from the now closed Sears. A bit of a dive bar, which is good. Not as gritty as the Backlite, but nothing is anymore. I haven't been there in a year or two, but you are right, it would make for a good TS bar. The cops would watch it like hawks however, because of all the apartment buildings and the residential neighborhood behind the place.
