This is a long-range and quite interesting and frank report on Douglas. In addition to being frank about how he thinks he got it, he then says:

it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer." He shrugs. "And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

Not sure about the medical explanations...anyway this is the link:

I wish him well.
I haven't seen all his movies..he's made some I wasn't particularly interested in...but the ones I did watch - I enjoyed. I'm also old enough to have watched "The Streets of San Francisco" television series - and enjoyed that also.
...and apparently he says some funny things.
Cancer sucks.

There might be some truth to it.

Cancers of the penis, anus and oropharynx are uncommon, and only a subset of these cancers are actually related to HPV. Each year in the U.S. there are about:
400 men who get HPV-related cancer of the penis
1,500 men who get HPV-related cancer of the anus
5,600 men who get cancers of the oropharynx (back of throat), but many of these cancers are related to tobacco and alcohol use, not HPV.

HPV is now the most common cause of oropharyngeal cancer and it typically presents in younger, non smoking males as opposed to the classical tobacco and alcohol related cancers affecting older adults. It has a much better prognosis than smoking related cancers with a lot of effort currently being placed on de-escalating the intense course of chemo-radiotherapy originally developed for smoking related cancers.

The Guardian has a follow-up article which argues that women are more likely to be the cause of HPV because of the delicate membranes in the vulva, whereas a dry penis is a tougher material -but this doesn't mean oral sex between men is safer because it can be the cause of other cancers or HIV in some circumstances.
