View Full Version : Landscape vs Portrait ...

Although not on this board, I see a lot of threads these days about the number of people that post video clips in portrait instead of landscape. It is annoying with video clips but until now, most photos sets were predominantly in landscape.

However, some of the recent sets I've seen are mostly portrait. In the recent Chelsea Poe set, featured in another thread on here, there were 103 pics, only 9 of which weren't portrait, and most of those were 4:3 pics of her feet ... :D

I own several widescreen tellies and stream porn from my NAS to all my devices. There's nothing more disappointing than a portrait shot appearing like a sliver down the middle of large, widescreen TV.

I want my girls in all their widescreen gorgeousness !! Are the rest of you lot doing all your perving on your bloomin' smartphones ?

It'll be interesting to her the thoughts of the guys that shoot the stuff and why they frame them the way they do ...

I have always shot the majority of my pictures in portrait... never had any complaints. I shoot that way mostly because it allows for more close-up pictures and oddly enough, I shoot most of my pictures standing up.

Videos, I always shoot landscape... I thought all regular video cameras shot that way? I have a Sony Bloggie that shoots in that portrait mode and I have to say, I agree it is annoying... both to edit and to watch... which is why I don't use it for the site.

I agree that close up headshots lend themselves to portrait, and as long as they are genuinely close-ups, I'm fine with that. However, a lot of the portrait shots I'm on about aren't particularly well framed or cropped and, IMHO, should really have been shot in landscape. I'll agree not all those work when cropped to 16:9 or whatever, but I still think they'd be better than in portrait.

As for the other forums I mentioned, the thing that bugs most people is why don't the smartphone generation just turn their damn phones sideways when they shoot ... :D

I think with this generation... they probably just prefer to turn their heads.

Nice to hear this point of view though... As I said, I've never had any complaints so it didn't even really cross my mind that people may prefer landscape pictures for viewing on HDTV or the like.

I HATE when people shoot videos in portrait mode...it's actually a pet peeve of mine.

Pictures are a different story. I prefer landscape mode for...landscapes.

Pics are diffrent, you can lends yourself to both, but when it comes to video it's annoying as fuck to see a portrait video, you basically lose all that real estate on the screen.
