Those who are familiar with the Thai ladyboy scene, is crystal meth still a huge problem with the girls? At one time it seemed that more of them smoked it than didn't.

Yeah but if you're thinking of going, there are other things you should be more concerned about, like playing safe and not getting robbed. (Unless you're just assuming a meth-head will rob you, which is probably true.) Most decent bars keep a close eye on things and if you stick to bar-girls it shouldn't be an issue...I mean the bar-fine does have some value even if it's a PITA...

Yep, stick with the bars. It's a much safer option compared to the street girls. YMMV

FYI:
Meth is called "ya ba" over in Thailand. The direct translation is "crazy pills" but it's basically meth in pill form.

Make sure you bring plenty of meth so there won't be a problem. It's when junkies run out of drugs that they lose their minds. If you supply you could have your own personal zombie.

They are also likely to accept less cash for long time if they are meth'd up:salad

Meth or 'Ya-Ba' the pill form, is the most common drug used in Thailand period. It is a problem amongst many young people. I don't see it as being an exclusive, nor common problem amongst Ladyboys. Yes there are some, but I've never had that problem. Choose carefully, and avoid overly aggressive prostiutes, and there'll be no problem.

Agreed. It's there but no more than amongst most. I think it's a little less than it seemed to be 5-8 yrs ago when it was rampant.

The thing is, a lot of girls need a bit of a head on to do what they do. It is prostitution, and while I absolutely know that all the guys here are trim handsome filmstar clones, well...some of what you see wandering around pissed drunk feeling up girls and looking for...well, anything...Thai girls aren't stupid, they'll give a guy who looks like trouble the KB...but they are basically going to have to fuck some fat hairy repulsive drunk guys to make the nut. You really can't blame them for needing a lift, so a lot of them get a decent alcohol head on and some (well, many) zap some yabba.

All most of them really really want is a drop-dead gorgeous rich guy to make it all go away, support their families in Isaan and then their parents will 'accept' them and they'll make face back home. Don't think many of us would want to be a Thai ladyboy sex worker, let's be honest.

I'll never understand how someone starts this drug.
Like cigarette smoking, you know what the likely end result is, so why start?
If not just for the financial problems you will face, think about your friend and family that watch you go down this path....sad

I've visited some Thai TS escorts in London who have on occasion had meth paraphernalia lying around, in most cases they said they had (regular) clients who like to use it while with them...
One time I saw a girl who was clearly zoned out on something, I didn't mind though as she didn't even check the money, let me absolutely screw the hell out of her and I ended up having an hour and a half when I'd only booked half an hour.

Oh most definitely. Their life isn't glamorous at all. And if you try something like that a couple of times you're hooked on it. I've never done it but cigarrettes got their hooks into me up until 2 months ago. I still get nasty cravings once in a while unfortunately.

"Ya ba" is a pretty big problem over there. Some coworkers I knew would do it while on a bender to keep the party going. In the news over there once in a while you'll hear of a large delivery truck causing a huge accident. Most of the time the cops find out he was on ya ba for the past 3 days. Financial pressures over there can be insane at times. So workers are using to keep working for long hours. I stayed in Bangkok for 2 years and would rely on taxis to get around because they were cheap. Occasionally my driver would twitch and fidget around like he needed his fix. This made me nervous because they would do this while driving like a maniac. That experience is even scarier when on a motorcycle taxi.

Cigarettes? Stopped decades ago, still get occasional twinges...but the health benefits keep getting more and more. Stick with it.

Yeah, Thai men are already lunatic drivers--Bankok makes Manila look driver-friendly--and on yaba (shudder)...

I haven't had a chance to watch the entire video yet...the first few minutes made me sick, but not for the reason you may think:

Shit like this is propaganda, put out by the government to make it look like it's doing something by busting a few kids who use and deal tiny amounts.

No doubt the big operators in manufacture and distribution are paying off government officials and police...people in power on both sides of the legal spectrum in bed with each other. The world's second oldest profession.

If I may say, the other thing they find uncomfortable is that, basically, to an Asian, Westerners smell. Part of it is the diet and part of it is, unfortunately, hygiene. Paper is not enough, chaps. Use the little garden hose thing you'll see at the side of any modern Asian wc...or the little bucket and tap in the older ones. And change clothes several times a day. Fresh fresh fresh. (I know you'll shower before the act -- she'll insist-- but anyway.) Southeast Asians--and certainly Thais and Flips...are hyper clean.

Some drugs are worse than others. Meth is one to avoid at all costs. Does some permanent and serious physical and mental damage.

Yep, I like to call it the "bum gun". A few blasts with that and you're super clean usually. In my next place I'll be getting one installed. One of the many things I miss about Thailand.

I've had one of those installed in every house I've owned since living in Thailand - although now I've upgraded to the Japanese Toto Washlet. Far more hygienic.

Fair enough. I found the information to be a little dated in the video. There was a big crackdown under Thaksin where a lot of people just disappeared into thin air. It's in the wiki article. That happened before I came to Thailand. But when I did live there I still noticed the effects of meth around the country like I mentioned earlier. I don't think "tiny amounts" were the case and the negative aspects of that lifestyle could be seen by your own eyes while walking down the street.

But hey I grew up in suburbia in Canada. I haven't been to that many countries yet. In Nova Scotia you can find the effects of meth if you end up on the bad side of town. The situation in Thailand struck me as pretty much the same.

Oh, no doubt meth is a very dangerous drug, especially when smoked, and it's terrible to think of young kids getting fucked up from it...I suspect the government will become more pro-active as it becomes an even bigger problem than it already is amongst the children from elite families.

I'm surprised to hear that meth is so rampant in London, I've never heard of it for sale in the UK so I'm obviously in the wrong crowds lol

As far as "why start?"/or "drugs being for the weak", it's way too easy to just write people off like that. I don't smoke, drink or do drugs but I don't judge people who do. We all make bad decisions in some form or another which can have serious repercussions; I have a number of friends who have genuine addiction problems with caffeine, spending money, hoarding, gambling, drinking, you name it. In some people it's a compulsion in others it's escapism and for some people it's just something that makes them happy for a short time and that makes life worth living.

Any of the really anti drugs people here able to say they've never done anything that endangers their health?
