A totally bizarre fact I came across--Iran apparently is second in the world in sex changes after Thailand. And the government even foots half the bill. While homosexuality is illegal there; getting a sex change and marrying the opposite gender is fine. They seem to have the same attitude as some on this board. So long as there is only one dick involved in the transaction, all is well. They do still manage to suck all the fun out of it though--no chicks with dicks or tranny parties or TS porn either.

That's really interesting. I would love to know more about why there are more transgenders in that part of the world.

Well since it is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment and/or death to be homosexual in Iran.

One would assume the authorities of Iran force homosexual men to undergo SRS or be killed.

The Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwah on this issue years ago at the request of a transwoman. As a result, SRS is permitted in Shia Islam. For the most part, Sunni Muslims oppose it and use this as an argument against the Shia.

The practical consequence is that gay boys feel pressured to become women so that they can have sex with men with impunity. Unfortunately, the fact that it is allowed and even encouraged by the government (which pays half the cost) does not erase the social stigma and family rejection. These women are all too often marginalized and turn to prostitution, becoming "temporary wives" to their customers.

True S... but the differences between Sunni and Shia are more profound and deeper than issues over the transgendered. It is to do with the succession to the Prophet.
