R.I.P. Jeff

Thanks for the inspiration to play guitar, and the memories and good music.

Slayer is one of my favorite bands, meaning Jeff had alot of influence on me becoming a metalhead and metal songwriter. He will be missed.

I was never a fan, but I totally respect the band as top notch musicians and for what they did for their genre of music. Very sad. R.I.P.

Absolutely. Slayer was my first introduction to metal music growing up and while my tastes eventually migrated to other genres, I'll always appreciate their unique sound and contribution to metal in general. Slayer will never be the same. RIP Jeff Hanneman.

Jeff Hanneman Was On Liver Transplant List When He Died

The Gauntlet can now exclusively confirm that Jeff Hanneman knew about his liver disease. Our sources have confirmed to us that Jeff was seeking treatment and had been sober for 2 months, a condition of being on the liver transplant list. There are four stages of liver disease, and Jeff was at stage 4 two months ago. He sought treatment earlier this year and and specialists informed him he needed a new liver and he was placed on a liver transplant list. Those closest to him thought with him being sober, he'd pull through everything okay.

The Billboard article said it was liver disease as a complication of necrotising fasciitis and did not mention alcohol abuse....oh well. Tough anyway.

I just read a piece in the NYTimes about him. It seems he had been ill for some time after being bitten by a poisonous spider. What a horrible horrible experience. RIP
[Jeff Hanneman, Slayer Guitarist, Dies at 49

May 02, 2013
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman thought he was on the mend after a spider bite followed by an infection. He'd been writing songs with the band in anticipation of recording a new album later this year.

But in an unusual chain of events, a representative for the band said the bite may have contributed to Hanneman's death more than two years later.

Hanneman died Thursday morning of liver failure at a Los Angeles hospital with his wife, Kathy, by his side, according to Slayer spokeswoman Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald. He was 49.

Family members and doctors were not immediately available to discuss the cause of death.

Robinson-Fitzgerald said Hanneman had been slowly recovering from necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease that nearly cost him his arm. Such an infection can develop from a minor cut or scratch; Robinson-Fitzgerald blamed the spider bite, for which he failed to seek immediate treatment. She said he was bitten while in a friend's hot tub.

Infections by flesh-eating bacteria are rare. The affliction can destroy muscle, fat and skin and may require surgery to remove the diseased tissue to save a patient's life.

Hanneman had several operations to remove dead and dying tissue from his arm, the band said on its website last year.

It's unknown if Hanneman was bitten by the dangerous brown recluse spider. Robinson-Fitzgerald said the spider that bit the Slayer guitarist was never recovered.

The government estimates roughly 750 flesh-eating bacteria cases occur each year, usually caused by a type of strep germ. About 1 in 5 people with the most common kind of flesh-eating strep bacteria die.

People with weakened immune systems can be more at risk.

Flesh-eating bacteria, by itself, doesn't cause liver failure. But at least one type of strep bacteria can cause streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, which can lead to liver failure.

It is unclear whether an autopsy will be scheduled. No funeral arrangements have been made.

"Jeff Hanneman will always be a metal god," rocker Andrew W.K. posted on Twitter.

Hanneman co-founded the thrash metal pioneers in Huntington Beach, Calif., in 1981.

I'm sure people have retaliated considering the number of funerals they protest. Love to see a YouTube video of the best of those fucks getting their skulls jumped on. If it isn't in the can yet can we get funding for pre-production?

I've read somewhere that lawsuits are a big part of how the WBC get its funding. It's almost like they are trolling for someone to assault them so they can profit from the settlement and bring attention to their cause (thanks a lot news media cocksuckers).

I would like to see the Slayer fans scare the shit out of the WBC but not harm any of them.

True. They seem to bait for lawsuits. Maybe disappear a few quietly then.

I'm sure by now many attending the funeral are aware that they are coming. I'd enjoy a good fright. Can't you massively surround them and close-in the circle without actual violence?

That is the best idea I've heard in a long time. I would start playing video games again. Special hidden level where you get to tie them to a chair after making a Home Depot run. Fuckers'll wish you went to the gun store instead.
