I started watching Horror Films at such a young age I thought Dracula was the good guy until I was 9. My father loved Horror but my mother hated it so I sat there and watched instead.

I liked Universal and still do with the films of Lugosi and Karloff. My father taught me an appreciation of British film-making and steered me towards Hammer Films. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were my new idols.

To this day I still watch a lot of Hammer. About to watch the Frankenstein series from Curse to Monster From Hell. Peter Cushing is brilliantly evil in these films and the real monster.

Hammer Horror is way more than just Dracula and Frankenstein too.

It's so weird you posted this, I just bought 4 of the Dracula movies (4 in 1 kind of deal). They knew how to make good horror back then, it was SUSPENSEFUL. Give me Hammer or the Universal monster over the Host or whatever the flavor of the month is. None of them could own a camera like Christopher Lee.

Christopher Lee was so spot-on as The Count he made Jess Franco look good one time. Of course crazy Klaus Kinski playing Renfield was fun too.

This is not a Hammer Film BTW.

You gonna watch those films soon? I watch and re-watch in order every now and again.

I also really like Hammer's version of The Mummy with Christopher Lee even though no one beats Karloff in the original. Karloff was very underrated as an actor and way better with more range than Lugosi. Watch The Body Snatcher and see how chilling Boris is.

Any fan of Frankenstein must see The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari.

I have been a rabid fan of Hammer since I saw Horror of Dracula when I was 8 years old and couldn't sleep for a week! I fell in love with the color, the 18th and 19th century locales, and of course the beautiful buxom ladies.

I just saw Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter on Netflix for the first time and loved it. Caroline Munro is exceptionally beautiful in it.

Love the color and the cleavage too. Everything looked so nice especially considering the low budget.

Plague Of The Zombies is some more good Hammer Horror and before Night Of The Living Dead.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched Blood From the Mummy's Tomb just to drool over Valerie Leon.

Absolutely. I was both drawn to her and repulsed at the same time - the allure of the vampire, I suppose.

Curse Of The Werewolf with Oliver Reed is very good too. I was never a fan of Chaney Jr even though I love his dad's stuff. I thought Reed was better and more sympathetic.

Posted about these in the Best of British films thread a few months ago.

The Vampire Lovers, or any Hammer film of that era; as a boy in seventies Britain, that was as near to porn as you were going to get ... :D

Hammer have also broken out into publishing recently, with specially commissioned works by Helen Dunmore, Jeanette Winterson, Sophie Hannah and Julie Myerson so far.

Helen Dunmore's The Greatcoat was a terrific ghost story, and I'm looking forward to the others. Recommended.

I believe Stephen King stole the idea for The Tommyknockers from Quatermass and the Pit i.e. a spaceship buried in the earth for millions of years contains the mummified bodies of aliens which affect earthlings telepathically and form the basis for hobgoblin myths. the end.

Got an autograph a few months ago from Caroline Munro who got bit by Christopher Lee in "Dracula A.D. 1972". I told her when "Maniac" (1981) came out, I went to a movie theater in some run down neighborhood to see it because it was the only theater in my city it was playing at. When I went in, all the guys in the audience looked like rapists, murderers, drug pushers, pimps, you name it. I got so scared I ran out of the theater and didn't bother to ask for my money back. She said she couldn't blame me for running out being that I was still in my teens.

Somebody please make a massive Blu-ray box with all things Quatermass(all movies and TV). I need that more than oxygen now. That's the empty spot in my Hammer Collection.

This isn't traditional Hammer Horror but still a set I like too.
