Lol...yeah, it's not Shakespeare, but sometimes coming home after a week of the same day to day mind numbing work, I just wanted to watch something visceral...that looked good. This fit the bill.

Actually the storyline is multi level and dynamic, the characters have a great degree of depth with complex emotions and relationships to the other characters outside the action scenes that are some of the most brutal you can find

Shakespeare's plays were often filled with sex and violence, so this is actually pretty damn close.

This show was the best. If you haven't seen it, and you think you might like it you should begin with Gods of the Arena or Season 1, and go forward from there.

I liked the earlier seasons better, but it was a great series nonetheless.
I wonder if they plan on following up with a spin off covering the rise of Ceaser.
