I think we ALL owe a debt of thanks to the late, great extremely hung Harry Reems. Star of such immortal films as "Deep Throat". Deep Throat was a breakthrough film that put porno on map. He was prosecuted and convicted numerous times but the convictions were overturned on appeal. He died of pancreatic cancer in Salt Lake City at the age of 65. After he left porn, he battled alcoholism for a number of years. When he cleaned up, he found religion, got married and became real estate broker.
I met him once in an off-off Broadway theater in Manhattan many years ago. He was a very nice person, not a stuck up diva, just a regular guy. We talked for about 20 minutes, then he asked if I wanted to go to a party with him. Unfortunately I really couldn't. But it was nice of him to ask.
Rest In Peace Harry Reems (Real name Herbert Streicher):(

According to the late Linda Lovelace she was forced to take part in the "Deep Throat" film - and I wonder if Mr Reems was aware of this or part of the violence against this woman.

This was from a newspaper review of her autobiography "Ordeal" " She claimed that Traynor (her husband) had physically and mentally abused her throughout their marriage, forcing her into pornography literally at gunpoint.
Her husband had had her gang-raped by five men, she said, and kept her a prisoner ‘just as much as if I was in Alcatraz’. He would never let her out of his sight, spying through the keyhole when she was in the bathroom and listening to her telephone calls with a .45 automatic pistol pointed at her.
Traynor would use his gun again when she was filming porn scenes, she added. ‘Chuck kept a gun in his pocket and would click the trigger, letting me know what would happen if I did not look convincing,’ she said.‘For years afterwards, I would have nightmares about the fear I felt when I heard that clicking.’ The abuse continued after the film came out, she said, as Traynor would give her the drugs she craved only if she agreed to perform her signature sex act on strangers."

So I don't mourn Mr Reems. More likely goodbye to a scumbag.

I actually read Ordeal back in college and it was a pretty interesting read.

The book chronicles her life with Trainer from her being pimped out, to being forced to do a dog scene and even a session where entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. is alleged to have blown Trainer.

My take on the book was that it was written after she became a born again christian and had to be taken with that in mind.

Porn of the 70's was still a back alley proposition filled with shady dudes and drugs (even moreso than today imho) but just because Reems worked with her for a couple of days its hard to imagine he could have had any responsibility for what Trainer did.

As I said I read the book back in college and don't remember if she slammed him or not but I do remember her saying that the movie and its popularity eventually led to her freedom. Don't get me wrong, she was an anti porn christian and hated that part of her life but understood that the movie eventually provided her a way out.

The world of 70's porn was tough but a lot of the performers became legends. Marilyn Chambers, Seka, Andrea True all had incredible stories. For once I am going to disagree with my brother from across the pond and give Mr Reems the benefit of the doubt.

In closing I am going to say I hope to get Seka to come over to the Safe House one day. She is still hot.
