If you could time travel into the past which era would you rather live in (PAST ONLY NO FUTURE). i personally would have loved to live during the roman era watch gladiators in the arena, smoke opium and have orgies hopefully id be a prince or king and not a slave otherwise id be fucked (pun intended!). another era i wouldnt mind is during the mid 60-70s woodstock era! life was so simple it was all about peace & love back then!

Being black I don't think I would want to go back any further than 60's or 70's. If I was a white guy I would want to go back to 800 ad and be a Viking

The "Roaring '20's" have a certain appeal. Someone mentioned ancient Rome. I could be the noble housewife by day slave girl by night. Renaissance Europe and (morals aside) the antebellum South round out my list.

Something along the lines of, say, 20,000 BC.... It'd be interesting. No cellular phones, no computers... :)

Actually, this is probably the worst time to be black outside of the slavery years. We have a really great history bro, try and do a little research. No dis...

Any who, without going into the future, there is no place I'd rather live than the present. I don't take the commodities we have for granted at all. And I certainly don't envy my ancestors who lived without it. Not to mention the social and cultural regression that incurs as you go further back.

Second favorite, New York in the 70s so I can go to Plato's Retreat.

THis isn't true. WHy would you say that??
Look at how many American cities were on fire in the 1960s and the riots.
It was a much more radical era in terms of societal change, but in total it's much better being a Black person in today's world than it was 40-50 years ago.

Do your peers feel the same way?? I think that's just nostalgia for that particular time.
Personally I'd want to live during the 1970s for pop culture reasons, not to escape racism.

If you think racism was worse in the 60s / 70s then Iīd assume you didnīt live through that period.

Plus no computers, cars that were crap, basic TV, basic land-line phones etc. etc. Along with the good bits went all the stinky bits.

Blacks' right to vote and civil rights weren't constitutionally protected until the 1960s. Some parts of the country if you were a BM openly dating a WW, you could lose your job and not be allowed to buy a house in your chosen community. That's just for starters.

The federal government had to force public schools to integrate, with many parents protesting against it.

Way more lynchings happened in the 1960s and 1970s. Blacks were openly excluded from certain career paths and many universities in the Midatlantic region and further South were still racially segregated.

People who have this crazy nostalgia for the 1960s/70s based on the assumption it was less racist are really out of touch IMO.

No way a guy like Obama could have been elected POTUS at any other time except now. Definitely not in the '60s/'70s.
