I higly recommend joining these two sites:

http://www.ladyboyspattaya.com/
http://www.bangkokladyboys.net/forum/

You can find all kinds of info on ladyboys, hotel recommendations, clubs, specific girls, scams, exchange rates, newbie advice, etc. All from other board members who frequent the Land Of Smiles.

I have visited Thailand 5 times (each time for business) and Bangkok is like many Asian cities, dirty, crowded, loud, polluted, etc.

In Bangkok I have stayed at the J.W. Marriott and the Conrad Bangkok, both of which are spectacular hotels and well located for my needs (business, etc.)

I have not partaken in the more "fun" activities that Bangkok has to offer, but that has more to do with my fear of being arrested and jailed for breaking any laws than the availability or safety of said "fun" activities.

Food is probably one of the best parts about Thailand form the street food (which has almost universally been great) to the nice restaurants, Thailand in general and Bangkok in specific is food centric.

Any questions, happy to help,
k

I've been living in Thailand for almost 5 years. Yep there are lots of ladyboys.

IMHO
Bangkok is good but watch out for scams, the gullible and naive can have their holidays ruined and often do. Lots of accomodation, things to do an see, etc. it's a very tourist friendly cit.

Pattaya is extremely sleazy but it can be good sleazy fun but most of the place stinks and the ladyboys are likely to rob you in Pattaya compared to anywhere else. It's okay for a short visit but there are so many tourist traps in such a small area.

Phuket is overrated and more expensive than the other two. Patong reminded me of Pattaya and its sleazyness. But other parts of Phuket are lovely. Pattaya is mostly sleazy and ugly.

I've been to Pattaya. Yeah, it was sleazy-ish but very enjoyable. Had my first sexual encounter with ladyboys there :). I also drank a shit ton of cheap ass beer and rode an elephant!

I would really love to go back and see more of Thailand but I don't have the money for 2 plane tickets ( for me and Jamie ) and hotel...let alone "fun" money.

If Jamie and I were to visit, we would definitely shoot a lot of porn! :)

I stop there often en-route to Oz .So some tips :Ladyboys are everywhere not just in bars and by accident I found hairdresser's are a great place to look.Bar girls are basically the same in all the big resorts ,I avoid the girls with plastic over surgery'ed looks .Ok important ,Use the safe in your room and only carry 1 card and money for the night ,second don't have ice in drinks unless you like the shits .Same goes for salads and fruit you dont peel.

I have lived in Thailand for a few years now. I love it. I live on a beach and relax most of my days. I have quite a few ladyboy friends and they usually pay for my stuff. I have had a few free trips to places. The ladyboy's here are very nice and I have yet to run into the crazy ones everyone talks about. I'm crossing my fingers though to make sure I never do.

Lots of places to see. Just off of Pattaya is an Island called. Koh Larn, everyone talks about how great it is. It sucks. The worst island out of all of them. I have been to them all. About 2 hours south is an island called Koh Samet. That is a beautiful island. nice to spend a weekend there and super cheap. 100 baht to go down from Pattaya and 50 baht to take a boat to get to the island. 30 baht = 1 USD

Bangkok is an hour and 40 minutes north. another hour and a half and you can see Ayutthaya. So pretty. If your not going for adult entertainment then you can go to sooooo many places for so cheap.

Yeah. usually a guy meets a girl on a dating website or just comes for a visit and falls for someone. Then they send them money every month to take care of them so they don't work as a working girl. Then the girl tells the man about how they don't do that and that they are faithful. Meanwhile they go and work again doing that or hang out with guys like they normally would. Now with a bunch of extra money. The girl just makes sure to talk to the guy on skype sometimes to tell the guy she loves him. When you go into an internet cafe here you can hear it all the time. " Honey I love you, send me some money".

I recently dined at Le Beaulieu (in the Athenee Towers) and had one of the best meals in recent memory.

Issaya Siamese Club is good for Thai and a little different as it is on Rama Road 4 and in an old Thai house.

I generally grab a drink at Smith, fun bar and restaurants (probably the go to choice Thai hipsters and the expat set.

Next time through I want to try Little Beast which I have heard good things about from local friends.

While I have not personally taken part in the "X" rated entertainment Thailand offers, I know it is prevalent and according to local friends an accepted way of life in Thailand.

On a side note, I am surprised that men for things like, "Honey I love you, send me some money" that sounds about as sincere as anything that comes out of a politicians mouth.

If you are not interested in "X Rated" attractions, then skip Pattaya, stick with Bangkok, Chiang Mai or the Islands. Aside from lots of bars with girls and ladyboys....sigh.... not much to offer there. The beaches are dirty and bay water around central Pattaya is a biohazard.

It's really surprising (and quite frankly, pathetic) that those guys are so gullible easily manipulated.

Has anyone been on the Vimantaitalay sub? I think I'm going to try to go on that. Try to go to the Tiger Zoo and Elephant village as well. How is that Beer Garden on the southern part of Pattaya Beach?

Also, I will definitely find my way up to Bangkok, but I'll still be hanging in the vicinity of Pattaya and Chon Buri.

I'm surprised that posters on a transsexual sex forum are giving the advice to potential first time visitors to Thailand to avoid the area with the largest concentration of transgendered girls on the planet. Bad advice, unless they aren't interested in available beautiful ladyboys for a reasonable cost.

Yes Pattaya is deeply flawed with all that was said previously, but so is New Orleans & Rio so maybe people shouldn't go there either? As far as crime there is less chance getting in trouble there than there is in the States, unless you start dealing with drugs or get ridiculously drunk in social situations. I have out of town friends who are afraid to get on the subway when they visit NYC because of what they have seen on tv. Your biggest threat there is a traffic accident or perhaps an std if you are careless.

If however what you really want to do is swim & visit temples don't spend your entire time in Pattaya, now that's good advice.

I agree with this guy. Pattaya is definitely worth seeing at least once.

The first time I went to walking street all I could see were neon signs and bar girls in school girl uniforms. I was speechless. It was like Nana & Soi Cowboy but turned up to 11.

Just don't be gullible or naive. That's the best way to protect yourself from that stuff.

My rule of thumb is to ignore every taxi driver who invites yo (or any stranger) u to go somewhere. Taxis should only be parked at the side of the road only.

Usually they'll take you to a bar or restaurant (that you insisted that you are not interested in going to) which will charge you a months salary for a couple of drinks and then threaten to kill you when they think you don't want to pay up. If you threaten to call the police they'll probably tell you that one of them is a policeman. It's a very old scam and very common in tourist traps around the world.

Be careful of which elephant village you chose to go to. Some of them are pretty crappy. The tiger zoo should be okay but I've never been there. The list of things to see and do in tripadvisor isn't a bad one.

Beer gardens are everywhere in Thailand. They are almost as common as temples. If you don't like one just stumble into a metered taxi and go to the next one.

Even worse there are internet cafes set up to do all of the skype messaging for the bar girl. Girls like this have several guys sending them money every month so sometimes they are too busy to reply to all there different boyfriends at the same time.

I've been to Thailand many times, and I agree with the above. Phuket at least has nice beaches, Bangkok has lots to do - I especially enjoyed the day trip to The Bridge Over The River Kwai. There's not really much to do at Pattaya except eat, sleep, drink and fuck. That's OK for a while, but it does get old quickly (my first trip there was when I was in my twenties - even back then it did.)

I can only speak for myself, but I avoid the X-rated stuff for two reasons, one while it may not be strictly enforced, it is illegal (I am not sure that it should be illegal at all, but that is a different discussion) and I do not want to be "Locked Up Abroad" and two I am there on business, representing my employer and even if I do not see a problem partaking in the X-rated stuff I am sure my employer does and I have to be respectful of that.

With regards to men falling for scams, I have always been surprised that men do not see through the blatant lies and willingly give money to girls just on the sound of the words, I love you.

My last flight home from Thailand, I was sitting in the Thai Airways Lounge and another gentleman was talking on his laptop to somebody and I overheard bits and pieces of the conversation. It ended with something along the lines of when I get back to Germany, of course I will send you money.

He finished his conversation (I am guessing via Skype) and looked up at me and said don't you just love Thailand, I have been here 15 times now and cannot get enough of it. Before I could respond, he started telling me about his "Girlfriend" who he met at a bar some period ago and how he supports her (he did not say if he she was a GG or TG) and in return she does not sleep with men for money anymore.

She has professed her love to him and how one day she hopes he will move to Thailand and marry her, but he openly admits that he has attachments in Germany and his ability to move to Thailand is really not possible, so he visits when he can and sends her money to help support her.

I did ask him, if he is worried it is all a scam, he sort of thought for a minute and said that one knows real love and she really loves him, so he is positive it is not a scam, though he does admit that many "working girls" in Thailand do run scams and even might profess love to get money.

Maybe I am jaded, but if it walks like a duck, smell like a duck and looks like a duck, it is probably a duck. I realize it is easier said than done, I have to hope that if some gorgeous Thai women or any women for that matter professed her love to and then sort of asked for money, I would use the right "head" to say no and get the hell out of there as quickly as possible and never look back.

I can understand how some guys fall for a bar girl or ladyboy. Having in your eyes a beautiful partner, great sex, and the overall environment of Thailand. Add to that a hottie that clings to you, treats you better than anyone has in the past, and does what you wish.

I have had "dates" in Thailand that fed me food from a plate, cleaned my room while I slept, and seemingly only wanted to please me no matter what.

Unless you have a strong will and a good mind set you will fall in love.

Of course the matter of send them money and they will stop working in a bar is absurd.

Yes, amazing how many guys fall for it.

But what isn't there is knowing and understanding her as a human being. Without that it just sounds like lust and poor judgement to fall for them just because they're extremely accomodating and nice. Plus I want to be with an intelligent woman, not someone who mindlessly just "does what you wish." But I guess if they're taking these fools' money, these women are at least smarter than the men they're hooking.

They definitely are. They are master manipulators and very industrious as well. Some of the bar girls are very mercenary but can still be good people but i imagine its difficult to find a partner who is cool with their girlfriend being a sex worker on a long term basis.

This book isn't based on a true story but has a lot of local wisdom in it. Basically the main character is one of those guys who falls in love with a bar girl.

Private Dancer: Stephen Leather: 9789810539160: Amazon.com: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51-EBpi7daL.@@AMEPARAM@@51-EBpi7daL (http://www.amazon.com/Private-Dancer-Stephen-Leather/dp/9810539169)

I highly recommend this book for anyone thinking of heading over to Thailand. It shows both sides to the story and the reader can make up their mind to who is at fault. Also, it'll make you think twice about falling in love with a bar girl.
