Feeling in a good mood today. I get to stay home with this little guy.

He's a long-haired chihuahua. His name is Taco.

Nice Chihuahua. Looks like a fun, rugged little guy.

I don't have actual pets in the house but I feed a bunch of stray cats and other animals in my backyard. Racoons and cats get along OK(never a death with plenty opportunity) after 8 years but any rat is not long for this World.

I used to have Akitas and would like another one when I have time to train a puppy. Akitas tend to be stubborn but good with their commands if reinforced properly. Patience and consistency is key.

I read somewhere that Akitas make great pets. Ever since I watched that Hachiko movie, I've kinda wanted one. They're supposed to be great for families with kids.

Really good family dogs. Mine knew kids were supposed to be idiots and always put up with them no matter what they did. Both of mine were great with cats and small animals too. Only issue was them around medium to larger dogs of the same gender that made the mistake of making eye contact.

Looking good. I remember when you first got him. Black cats have always been good luck for me. I've had 3 and I'm feeding one now.

Got a pair of Jacks.

Soft as shite once you're introduced, but do not like strangers...As one lass found out when she went for a glass of water in the middle of the night...Trapped her in the bathroom!!!

Akitas are beautiful, and very protective of their families. As Dino said though, beware around other dogs of similar size, and sometimes other people. One of the most wicked things I have ever saw involved an Akita and a Bouvier. They were about 100ft apart, Akita on a leash and Bouvier not. When they saw each other, they sprinted toward each other and went at it. Brutal fight ended with the Akita's jaws around the Bouviers throat. Owners separated them otherwise the Bouvier would have been torn apart

It did hit me hard! Much harder than I thought it would. I'm not the crying type but I have to admit half into a bottle of scotch I broke down. It all hit me at once that I had them both longer than just about everyone I know these days.

It's not to soon but I just haven't decided what kind of dog and/or cat I want. My son wants a snake so after we get that I will checkout a few of the rescues around and see if any of the little guys make me fall in love right away.

Good luck Quiet reflections. In my experience while you don't forget the old one, the bond with a new pet grows quickly. Make sure you keep the snake away from whatever cat or dog you get!

Thanks. I'm only going to get him something small like a corn snake but that is still damn good advice.

How much do you spend on air freshener?

In which case keep the corn snake away from the dog/cat.. cos they might eat him!

I'm not really a cat person (except for next doors) but, that one poking his head over the fence is a cracker!

They become family! :shrug
I had a little Cairn Terrier, he was 18 when he died.
I did the same, got drunk one night, bawled my fukkin eyes out!

Really sorry to hear that. Losing one animal is hard enough, but two around the same time must be brutal. It's never easy even when you anticipate it. When my male Akita died it was difficult for me to leave the house for about 2 weeks. The dog traveled everywhere with me and was the eyes in the back of my head almost like having my own samurai.

He looked almost exactly like this guy being 125 lbs in his prime.

Hello,

I have two big cats named Yoda and Boots, they are brothers and are 4 years old.

Strangely enough, Boots seems to have a fetish for leather and high-heeled boots!!

Kisses,

Joanna

LOL!!! My house is known in my neighborhood as Satan's Petting Zoo...
We don't spend much on air fresheners....We use the kind that last for months.
Two of the snakes are venomous.....One is a False Water Cobra, the other,a Gaboon Viper. The other snakes are various Constrictors.

Very true. Cats are big meat eaters and only think of themselves when their back is against the wall. Remove back and wall and most cats behave this way normally too. Felines are not Labrador Retrievers.

Thanks jamie! Yeah taco is my first chihuahua. I've had a spaniel and a terrier before. I was iffy about getting a small dog but it's awesome. It's like having a cat-sized dog!

They do look very similar indeed. Boots does the roaming, Yoda stays locally plotting his next evil deed!

As soon as we can afford it, Jamie and I are gonna get a Scottish Fold! :)

We plan to adopt a rescue. The thing that's holing us up is the "pet deposit"...400 Drachmas. :/
