Oh, today is Presidents Day, is there some tradition for this? I have never figured this out. Does the president get to play rookie? If I was the president I would be a diva today - Bitch it's Presidents' Day get on your knees!

I just don't know if there is some tradition for this. I was obviously wrong about Martin Luther King Day, according to my friends Johnny and Haze lol


So educate me, and what would you do as president if it was your day lol

Well,being that I'm a smartass, I think I'd prank call other countries pretending to be whoever holds the largest portion of their debt....and tell them to prepare to be annexed by whatever they hate the most......basically an April Fools joke without being April.....and only I get to play...LOL!!

We used to get 2 days off for 1 for Washington and 1 for Lincoln

Then the govt broke something that wasn't broke and combined the 2 days into one. So now we only get 1 day off [for some people]

Another example of the govt. F'ing us.

Wikipedia - that sorta accurate place of wisdom indicates it became President's day in 71 as the 3rd Monday of Feb. I thought it was to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln. Prior to that - government workers, schools, and banks got two holidays in Feb, but rarely on a Monday.

In 1968 the Uniform Monday Holiday act, strongly promoted by the Skiing, sunny resort, and tourist promotion act changed 4 holidays - Presidents, Memorial, Columbus, and Veterans Day to always occur on Mondays so Government employees, schools, banks, and big companies could have more 3 day weekends to hop on planes and party at a destination. MLK day added in 83 followed the same. So from that day on - Lincoln and Washington no longer have a celebration on their birthday, and probably no spot in public education either.

Back when papers were on dead trees there were a lot of good sales on P day, it doesn't seem so now. Hard to get the flyers out about it.

There is no FEDERAL holiday called President's Day. Today's holiday is Washington's birthday. States, principalities and car dealerships came up with this Prez's day stuff.

There used to be two federal holidays the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Since both these men were born in February the government decided it we be more efficient and less costly to turn it into single holiday celebrated on third Monday in February.

The holiday is recognized by most government agencies in the US,nation, state and local but by very few businesses.
