Tooooooooooooo Funny. BEST place to be really...EXTREMELY cheap room rates. Having a room down on "the strip" is soooooooooooooooooo for tourists. I have lived in Vegas since 2002...I can count on one hand how many times I have actually been down to "the strip" I avoid like the plague...You cant even drive fast down there cuz u might hit someone! Motorcycle cops everywhere....stop lights with accelerated change points....not for me!

Paradise Road is the way to bypass it if you don't want to take the freeway...and that express lane on said freeway is a joke!

My folks stayed at South Point back in September; they gave it rave reviews. Maybe on my next trip I'll stay there...April, perhaps?

I have been here since Nov 1999, I think I actually been on the strip four or five times and those were time I went to see a concert. I have to cross the strip pretty much everyday for work the mornings are not bad but damn when it hits the evening it surprises me how people forget to get into the turning lane to get onto the strip.

Trust me I understand from a tourist stand point the strip is the place to be at. Just living here I guess it becomes more of a background than a playground. well its the same here. most new yorkers, except name droppers, avoid placed that tourists flock to. about the only "tourist-y" thing i do in nyc is see broadway shows.

my nephew-in-law (if there is such a thing) is from spring valley and he hates the strip with a passion.

I love the Strip; trying to save some scrilla to spend some time at Vdara later this year for some R&R.

It IS a bitch in the evenings though...especially Friday and Saturday night. It's cool with me; it's not like I'm going to be there ALL THE TIME!

They have EXTREMELY improved to "Express Lanes" You can EASILY get up toa 130mph now in the left lane and STILL have room for more!! They have repaired SOME of the roads and repaired the pot holes. I no long have to worry too muchabout my 20"s...hehehe!

The 15 is actually pretty good now, but I came from Chicago so I know what real traffic is like. City of 8 million, all expressways are 2 lanes, 3 tops. 45 minutes to go 10 blocks. Vegas traffic is a joke compared to that. The only place I've ever seen real traffic in this town is by the "spaghetti bowl" interchange where the 95 and 15 meet,and even that isn't bad.

Rally, you need to give downtown another chance. Yes, its a bit away from the strip, but its really nice now. The Griffin, Insert Coin, Beauty Bar, Vanguard,and a host of other nice places down there now, with more coming. They've done a real good job of fixing it up. The Golden Gate and the D have some nice eye candy, Golden Nugget isn't bad either. And the zip line is a hell of a good time, flying over peoples heads down Fremont Street! And it still has its seedy edge. You can still find lots of fun and illegal stuff to do down there as well.

As for the South Point, its very nice. It's cheap, non-pretentious, and has some pretty entertaining things going on most weekends. The gambling is better odds than the strip, the drinks are actually stronger, and while the clientele isn't nearly as good looking, there are plenty of people there for any proclivity. And since most of them are locals, its more my speed than the strip. It's maybe 15 minutes from the Strip if you take the 15, maybe 20 to 25 minutes if you go down LV Blvd, unless you count weekends when the strip is bumper to bumper traffic.

Although I will admit, when I do go out, it's usually on the strip. The one nice thing about working in the liquor industry is that I get free swag at most of the clubs.
