Ex-LA Cop Sought in Shootings of 3 Cops, 2 Slayings

By DAVID WRIGHT, KEVIN DOLAK and JOSH HASKELL | Good Morning America – 8 hours ago

Police in Southern California say they suspect that a fired cop is connected to the shootings -- one fatal -- of three police officers this morning, as well as the weekend slayings of an assistant women's college basketball coach (http://abcnews.go.com/US/slain-irvine-california-couples-death-mystery-police/story?id=18413611) and her fiancé in what cops believe are acts of revenge against the LAPD, as suggested in the suspect's online manifesto.
Former police officer Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, who's also a former U.S. Navy reservist, has been publically named as a suspect in the killings of Monica Quan, 28 (http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/engaged-california-couple-found-dead-car-18412477), and her 27-year-old fiancé, Keith Lawrence, Irvine police Chief David L. Maggard said at a news conference Wednesday night.
"We are considering him armed and dangerous," Lt. Julia Engen of the Irvine Police Department said.
Police say the expert marksman shot at four officers in two incidents overnight, hitting three of them: one in Corona, Calif., and two in Riverside, Calif.
Sgt. Rudy Lopez of the LAPD said two LAPD officers were in Corona and headed out on special detail to check on one of the individuals named in Dorner's manifesto. Dorner allegedly grazed one of them but missed the other.
"[This is an] extremely tense situation," Lopez said. "We call this a manhunt. We approach it cautiously because of the propensity of what has already happened."
The Riverside Police Department said two of its officers were shot before one of them died, KABC-TV reported. The extent of the other's injuries is unclear. Police suspected a connection to Dorner.
"They were on routine patrol stopped at a stop light when they were ambushed," Lt. Guy Toussant of the Riverside police department said.
A badge and identification belonging to Dorner have been found in San Diego, according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick. Dorner's LAPD badge and ID were found by someone near the city's airport, and turned in to police overnight, The Associated Press reported.
Police around Southern California are wearing tactical gear, including helmets and guns across their chests. The light-up signs along California highways show the license plate number of Dorner's car, and say to call 911 if it is seen. The problem, police say, is that they believe Dorner is switching license plates on his car, a 2005 charcoal-gray Nissan Titan pickup truck.
Lawrence was found slumped behind the wheel of his white Kia in the parking lot of their upscale apartment complex in Irvine Sunday and Quan was in the passenger seat.
"A particular interest at this point in the investigation is a multi-page manifesto in which the suspect has implicated himself in the slayings," Maggard said.
Police said Dorner's manifesto included threats against members of the LAPD. Police say they are taking extra measures to ensure the safety of officers and their families.
The document, allegedly posted on an Internet message board this week, apparently blames Quan's father, retired LAPD Capt. Randy Quan, for his firing from the department.
"Your lack of ethics and conspiring to wrong a just individual are over," he allegedly wrote.
One passage from the manifesto reads, "I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty."
"I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own," it reads. "I'm terminating yours."
Dorner was with the department from 2005 until 2008, when he was fired for making false statements.
Randy Quan, who became a lawyer in retirement, represented Dorner in front of the Board of Rights, a tribunal that ruled against Dorner at the time of his dismissal, LAPD Capt. William Hayes told The Associated Press Wednesday night.
According to documents from a court of appeals hearing in October 2011, Dorner was fired from the LAPD after he made a complaint against his field-training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans, saying in the course of an arrest she had kicked a suspect who was a schizophrenic with severe dementia.
After an investigation, Dorner was fired for making false statements.
"We have strong cause to believe Dorner is armed and dangerous," Maggard said.
Donner was a Navy reservist who'd just finished his military career as a lieutenant Friday. His only overseas deployment was to a Navy base in Bahrain. He also received a Rifle Marksman Ribbon and Pistol Expert Medal, meaning he received superior scores when he tested at the range.
Police say Dorner is 6-feet tall, and weighs 270 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Meanwhile, Cal State-Fullerton is still mourning the loss of their beloved assistant coach.
"There are really no words to convey the sadness that our program feels, that the young women who have had the privilege of working with such a bright and passionate woman," head coach Marcia Foster said earlier this week. "I want to especially send out condolences to Randal and Sylvia Quan, and her brother Ryan."
After college, Quan coached at Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks and has spent the past two years as an assistant coach at Cal State-Fullerton. The university has posted a memorial page on its sports website dedicated to Quan.
Lawrence was a business graduate who recently started working as a public-safety officer at USC.

Massive manhunt on for ex-cop accused of killing 3

By TAMI ABDOLLAH and SHAYA TAYEFE MOHAJER | Associated Press – 18 mins ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A report of a burned pickup truck on a Southern California mountain road is being investigated amid a manhunt for a fired Los Angeles police officer suspected in three murders.
TV news helicopters have shown a helicopter drop a rifle-equipped team onto a mountain near Big Bear Thursday afternoon.
San Bernardino County sheriff's Deputy Zach Beckum says a pickup fire was reported but there has been no sighting of suspect Christopher Dorner. Beckum also says local schools are on lockdown.
A massive manhunt is under way for Dorner, who allegedly killed a former police captain's daughter and her fiance last weekend. He's also suspected of killing a police officer and wounding two others in two separate shootings early Thursday. He was reportedly driving a pickup at the time.

It's 9:30 AM and dude is still on the loose. Police think he's in Big Bear finding his burned-out Nissan truck and some footprints. They were searching cabins door-to-door last night in the freezing cold. Hopefully the hunter turns into the hunted and gets buried in the snow.

Crazy shit, I think its interesting he did a two year tour in the Middle East and had police counter-terror training, talking all about asymetrical warfare. I saw some photos of the police car that got ambushed- all the holes in the winshield were shoulder lavel and above and he had one pretty tight group. I've been wondering when somebody well trained would flip out.

This race-obsessed loser lives with his mom and sure showed a lot of bravery killing a Chinese girl. The last act of perceived racism against him will be his own execution by the cops. Imagine how he processes his final moments. What will his last words be and will anyone bother to record them?

The LAPD does have 'form' on sensationally bad cops. Werent they involved in the Rampart scandal, which inspired The Shield cop tv series? Before that the Rodney King case?

Since colour was brought into this, are those who are not black, relieved its not one of them again like in the cases mentioned above? Any idea what the LA gangs have been saying with so much cops hunting down a rogue cop, has crime gone up elsewhere?

has crime gone up elsewhere? Good question. Hasn't seemed to but I live on the Westside and this story has been dominating the news. The LAPD has been putting their resources toward this situation and other violent crime with low or no response to property crime. I believe all officers are doubled up with motorcycle officers also in cars. Not much traffic enforcement, I imagine.

As a resident of Southern California, a personal as skeptical as any about the LAPD and against any action based on color, creed, sexual orientation etc. it is IMHO that we all should wait to see what if any legitmate issues this former officer had against LAPD.

But his actions are disgusting, they present every argument against the prolifiration of guns that exists in the USA today. HIs victims so far show no proportionality but rather heighten the argument in the long on-going discussion in America of rights to bear arms.

He is clearly a man suffering emotional breakdown and while he must go down, society should not either see this as a chance to jump on law enforcement or condemn the mental ill that unfortunately live in a country that gives them such easy access to eapons of death.

There was a lot of Police activity today in Hancock Park for several hours during the afternoon. The cops had about 5 streets closed, a helicopter circling, and cops posted a various intersections throughout the neighborhood. I tried to find information online, but never found out what was going on. Of course, my mind wondered if Dorner was in town and if he was going to show up at my house. Strange how the mind works.

I suggest everyone read the full manifesto in its entirety before they simply write this guy off as a race nut.
http://hiphopandpolitics.wordpress.com/2013/02/07/uncensored-manifesto-from-retired-lapd-officer-christopher-dorner/

IMO he had legitimate grievances, but he went about it the wrong way to get them addressed. I really don't think the guy should have been fired on the grounds stated by LAPD, that he allegedly falsely reported his female partner kicking a mentally ill suspect in the chest and face.

He's dead either way.
I'm sure LAPD has no desire or intention to bring Dorner in alive. Apparently he doesn't either.

Got to these parts:

During the BOR, the department attempted to label me unsuccessfully as a bully. They stated that I had bullied a recruit, Abraham Schefres, in the academy when in reality and unfounded disposition from the official 1.28 formal complaint investigation found that I was the one who stood up for Abraham Schefres when other recruits sang nazi hitler youth songs about burning Jewish ghettos in WWII Germany where his father was a survivor of a concentration camp. How fucking dare you attempt to label me with such a nasty vile word. I ask that all earnest journalist investigating this story ask Ofcr. Abraham Schefres about the incident when Ofcr. Burdios began singing a nazi youth song about burning jewish ghettos.

I just don't believe that at all (who even knows a Nazi Youth song about burning Jewish ghettos ... seems to be trying to bring other races into it).

Even with the multiple conversations and ambient noise I heard Officer Magana call an indivdual a nigger again. Now that I had confirmed it, I told Magana not to use that word again. I explained that it was a well known offensive word that should not be used by anyone. He replied, “I’ll say it when I want”. Officer Burdios, a friend of his, also stated that he would say nigger when he wanted. At that point I jumped over my front passenger seat and two other officers where I placed my hands around Burdios’ neck and squeezed. I stated to Burdios, “Don’t fucking say that”. At that point there was pushing and shoving and we were separated by several other officers. What I should have done, was put a Winchester Ranger SXT 9mm 147 grain bullet in his skull and Officer Magana’s skull.

Nigger is used everywhere. From Chris Rock, to music, to Django. Lenny Bruce pre-empted this. For a police office to attack someone physically shows his lack of restraint and further more discussing the exact bullet he should have executed this office with, shows further his line between reality and fantasy is blurred.

That's as far as I got. I'm sure there are grievances but anything he says is dis-credited for me already (or smeared) by the rubbish he's posted above. Executing people for revenge against how he feels slighted? Let's hope the police show some restraint as it will be a far more interesting trial (and watch the race politics come into that!)

Resentment in a powerful, enduring and potentially destructive emotion -I don't know precisely what it is that this man resents, but are there no procedures in the LAPD that identify officers under stress that takes them out of duty for counselling -? If he had a reputation for having a hair-trigger temper the question is why and what can be done about it. Neglecting this aspect of his behaviour has caused the loss of life and probably his own, but if he is killed we may never know the cause(s) of his violent rage.

All his complaints were cumulative. The tipping point was when he was fired by a review board who believed he lied when he claimed his fellow PO kicked a mentally disabled suspect in the chest and face. The suspect, a schizophrenic, told LAPD he had been kicked, and also informed his father that the attack took place. However because of his illness the review board claimed the alleged suspect's account was unreliable and dismissed.

The review board decided Dorner's claims were without merit and fired him, even though Dorner alleges the attorney for the accused officer admitted to the Board behind closed doors in the presence of his own legal representation that the accused officer did indeed kick the suspect.

Dorner claims this officer has a documented history of using excessive force against suspects. I wish some investigative journalist would check out the claims made by Dorner, since most of them are either documented in LAPD records, or can be confirmed from interviewing the individuals mentioned by Dorner in his manifesto.

It's very easy to track down the Jewish officer who was the brunt of an anti-semitic verbal attack at the police academy and find out if the story Dorner told is true.

So far the officer Dorner accused of kicking an alleged suspect is refusing to talk to reporters, and Dorner's attorney from the review board hearing isn't talking either.

Why??

As for using racial epithets among fellow police officers, um, dropping the N-bomb in the presence of Black POs can be grounds for disciplinary action. That's not condoned by any PD in the country. Sure there are White and hispanic cops who use the word 'nigger' when there are no Black cops around. But that's precisely the point.

The LAPD has a bad rep nationally for a reason. It's still considered to be a law enforcement agency that openly condones bigotry, sexism, racism and routine violent tactics against perps by its officers.

It's totally believable to me that Dorner could be in the back of police van with other cops and hear someone sitting up front dropping N-bombs. Dorner isn't the first Black police officer who's complained about working in a racially hostile work environment.

Dorner is absolutely wrong to go on a murderous vendetta against LAPD, but I personally would like to know which accusations in his manifesto are true.

Court file: LA ex-cop was disturbed, self-obsessed

By GILLIAN FLACCUS | Associated Press – 16 hrs ago

ORANGE, Calif. (AP) — A photo never tells the whole story, and that's especially true for Christopher Dorner. The images on his Facebook page are essentially the same: Dorner, smiling, seemingly loving life and all it offers.
But they accompany a rambling document where he portrays himself as a real-life Rambo, an expert in weapons, explosives and military tactics who will stop at nothing to avenge his 2008 firing from the Los Angeles Police Department.
It's incongruous and it underscores the complexity of the man who now is the most wanted in America, accused of killing three people as he carries out his vendetta.
Where Dorner sees himself as a warrior, others see someone much different. The 6-foot, 270-pounder is a physical hulk who — despite his size — seemed to battle deep-seated insecurities, lived with his mother and cracked under the pressures of police work.
Court and police files show that Dorner once began weeping while on duty in a patrol car, awkwardly flashed his police badge on a first date and told a girlfriend he kept his emotions bottled up.
Those who study the psyches of criminals said Dorner's aggressive and self-aggrandizing rant indicates a classic case of malignant narcissist personality disorder. Some people with the disorder are extremely thin-skinned and vengeful, said Mary Ellen O'Toole, a retired FBI profiler.
They may seem insecure, she said, but in reality their rages — and even tears — are extreme reactions to real or imagined criticisms because they have such grandiose visions of themselves.
"He's putting in his manifesto that he's going to use all the training he received as an LAPD officer and as a military officer to basically hold Southern California hostage, and to be there when you least expect it," she said. "Is he deadly? Yes. Of course he has killed people."
"But is he capable of taking on some 1,000 officers looking for him? That's someone with a personality disorder," she said.
Dorner, 33, is accused of killing a woman last weekend whose father had represented him as he fought to keep his police job, and the woman's fiance. On Thursday, police say he ambushed two officers, killing one, and then vanished, setting off a manhunt that put police on alert across the Southwest.
The search Friday focused on the mountains around Big Bear Lake, about 80 miles east of Los Angeles. Police said officers still were guarding more than 40 people mentioned as targets in the rant.
The rambling manifesto was on a Facebook page that also includes smiling pictures of Dorner and critiques or politicians, musicians, and comedians. He also offers commentary on topics from gun control — he wants stricter laws for assault weapons — to sexual abuse by priests to the proper room temperature.
Court papers from 2006 show that Dorner requested a restraining order against a woman he had dated for six weeks after he said she posted his LAPD badge number and trash-talked about him on a website called dontdatehimgirl.com.
Dorner attached the lengthy posting he said was by his ex-girlfriend, Ariana Williams, as well as a handwritten note she apparently placed on his belongings when she returned them after they broke up.
In the web posting, Dorner is described as "severely emotionally and mentally disturbed," ''twisted" and "super paranoid." It also said he flashed his police badge on their first date, lives with his mother and hates himself for being black — at one point asking her to act more like a white woman.
"Just be careful because this guy is a police officer and he will probably think that he can get away with anything. ... If you value your sanity, stay away from this guy."
Dorner claimed Williams was harassing him and sent a threatening letter to his home. He asked that she also stay away from his mother and sister. In her response, Williams denied Dorner's allegations.
Records show Dorner did not show up at a hearing in November 2006 and the case was terminated. She could not be reached to comment. Her attorney, Stephen G. Rodriguez, did not return a call or email seeking comment.
In 2008, after Dorner was deployed to Bahrain with the Navy Reserves, he returned to the LAPD and began to patrol with his training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans. He had worked for just four months after his graduation from the academy before being sent overseas.
In internal police papers, Evans said Dorner repeatedly asked why he was being put back on patrol without reintegration training. On one occasion, he began weeping in the patrol car and demanded to be taken back to the police academy to be retrained, according to a summary of an interview with Evans contained in 2009 court documents.
Evans warned Dorner that she would give him an unsatisfactory rating and request that he be removed from the field unless he improved. A day after she followed up on her threat with a poor review, Dorner reported to internal affairs that Evans had kicked a severely mentally ill man in the chest and left cheek during an arrest.
A police review panel ultimately found the allegation untrue and Dorner was fired for making a false statement.
In the manifesto, Dorner said the LAPD destroyed his life, ruined his relationships with his mother and sister and harmed his military career.
Those types of statements don't surprise O'Toole, the former FBI profiler, who said narcissists feel intense shame and humiliation when outside events challenge their perception of themselves.
"He's somebody I call an injustice collector," she said. "When they respond to an injustice that they think is out there, their reaction is completely over the top."

Okay the dude has issues, apparently. PTSD???
I'd still like to see some of his allegations drilled down into some more.

IMO the only part of his manifesto that read as not believable was when he threatened LAPD he was going to go 'Rambo' on SoCal. That ain't happening. The first cop that finds him is going to STK.

The military's Stars & Stripes paints a completely different picture of Dorner than the San Diego AP story.

LOS ANGELES — On the day Christopher Dorner was fired from the Los Angeles Police Department, officials took the unusual step of summoning armed guards to stand watch at his disciplinary hearing downtown.
Those present were nervous that Dorner might do something rash when he learned that he was being stripped of his badge. He was a hulking, muscled man and his body language left no doubt about the anger seething out of him.
“It was clear … that he was wound way too tight,” said a police official who attended Dorner’s termination hearing and requested anonymity because of safety concerns.

That day four years ago, authorities now allege, was the start of a free fall into despair and deadly violence for Dorner. Police say the 33-year-old ex-cop killed three people and injured others on a campaign to exact revenge against those he blamed for his downfall.
Friends and acquaintances who knew Dorner before he became a police officer struggled to reconcile the person they remembered with the image of the deeply disturbed man that emerged Thursday from a rambling manifesto that authorities said was published on what they believe is Dorner’s Facebook page.

The manifesto portrays Dorner as having no choice but to kill in order to reclaim his destroyed reputation.
“I am a man who has lost complete faith in the system, when the system betrayed, slandered and libeled me,” the manifesto states.
Born in New York state, Dorner grew up in Southern California with his mother and at least one sister, according to public records and claims in the manifesto.

Dorner felt isolated growing up as one of the few African-American children in the neighborhoods where he lived and was the victim of racism, according to the manifesto. “My first recollection of racism was in the first grade,” Dorner allegedly wrote, recalling a fellow student at Norwalk Christian School in Southern California who called him a racial slur. Dorner said he responded “fast and hard,” punching and kicking the student.
It was an early, telling illustration of a notion Dorner returned to repeatedly throughout his life — that he was a victim, often wronged by others, records show.

As a teenager in La Palma, in Orange County, Dorner joined the Police Department’s youth program, and decided to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Dorner went on to enroll at Southern Utah University, where he joined the school’s football team and was befriended by a teammate, Jamie Usera.
Usera, who grew up in Alaska, said he and Dorner bonded over the feelings of culture shock that came with being outsiders on the predominantly white, Mormon campus.

Usera said he introduced Dorner to hunting and other outdoor sports. “He was a typical guy,” Usera said. “I liked him an awful lot. Nothing about him struck me as violent or irrational in any way. He was opinionated, but always seemed level-headed.”

Dorner often brought up race issues and the two had heated, but respectful, arguments about the extent of racism in the country, Usera said. “Of all the people I hung out with in college, he is the last guy I would have expected to be in this kind of situation.”
Neil Gardner, an assistant athletic director, knew Dorner through football and echoed Usera, saying Dorner was “never a disgruntled guy.”

Dorner graduated in 2001 with a degree in political science and, soon after, enlisted in the Navy. Over the next several years, military records indicate Dorner received extensive combat and counterterrorism training and earned commendations for his marksmanship with rifles and pistols.

Dorner was an honorably discharged commissioned Navy officer(lieutenant). This narrative that he was a disgruntled troublemaking malcontent who saw racism around every corner runs counter to most of his adult service record.

I just have a hard time personally taking anything LAPD says 'officially' at face value.

LAPD: Cabin too hot for entry; Dorner investigation continues

LAPD has rolled back statements made about a cabin in which fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner was suspected to be hiding.

BIG BEAR, Calif. — No body has yet been recovered from a burned out cabin in the mountains above Los Angeles following a gun fight between police and a suspect believed to be a fugitive ex-cop, despite news reports to the contrary, a Los Angeles Police spokesman said.
Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said the cabin in the Big Bear area northeast of Los Angeles was "still too hot" for police to enter.
Several news organizations had reported that a body was found in the cabin and had been identified as likely that of former 33-year-old Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner.

If the man inside proves to be Christopher Dorner, the search for the most wanted man in America over the last week would have ended the way he had expected — death, with the police pursuing him.
Thousands of officers had been on the hunt for the former Navy reservist since police said he launched a campaign to exact revenge against the Los Angeles Police Department for his firing. They say he threatened to bring "warfare" to officers and their families, spreading fear and setting off a search for him across the Southwest and Mexico.
"Enough is enough. It's time for you to turn yourself in. It's time to stop the bloodshed," LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith said at a news conference held outside police headquarters in Los Angeles, a starkly different atmosphere than last week when officials briefed the news media under tight security with Dorner on the loose.
A short time after Smith spoke Tuesday, smoke began to rise from the cabin in the snow-covered woods near Big Bear Lake, a resort town about 80 miles east of Los Angeles. Flames then engulfed the building — images that were broadcast on live television around the world. TV helicopters showed the fire burning freely with no apparent effort to extinguish it.
"We have reason to believe that it is him," said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cynthia Bachman, adding that she didn't know how the fire started. She noted there was gunfire between the person in the cabin and officers around the home before the blaze began.
Until Tuesday, authorities didn't know whether Dorner was still near Big Bear Lake, where they found his burned-out pickup last week.

Should an armed drone be dispatched to kill Christopher Dorner?

Why should the lives of law enforcement agents be risked to apprehend this suspected domestic terrorist?

Hours later, SWAT team stormed cabin, which caught fire; sheriff's department says it believes suspect died
Police: Encounter came after suspect, in stole vehicle, exchanged gunfire with game warden, and then fled to cabin in San Bernardino National Forest

[Updated at 12:33 a.m. ET Wednesday] New details about the suspect's encounter and shootout with game wardens before the shootout with sheriff's deputies at the cabin: Game wardens saw the suspect in two vehicles Tuesday.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife Lt. Patrick Foy says two game wardens first chased the suspect as he was driving a purple Nissan in the San Bernardino National Forest. The wardens, in a patrol truck, had been told to look out for the Nissan, and they saw it driving in the opposite direction behind two buses.
Foy says the wardens did a U-turn and tried to follow the Nissan, but they lost him. Authorities now believe the suspect passed the buses and turned onto a different road, called Glass Road.
Later, three different wardens in two vehicles were driving on Glass Road and saw a white pickup truck traveling erratically toward them. One of the wardens believed he saw Dorner driving the truck.
The truck's driver fired a gun at one of the wardens' vehicles, Foy said. A warden got out and returned fire as the suspect drove away.
Foy said no warden was injured. He said he didn't know whether the suspect was shot.
Authorities say they believe the suspect ditched the second vehicle and entered a cabin, where he eventually exchanged gunfire Tuesday afternoon with San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies, killing one and wounding another.
Hours later, according to police, a SWAT team stormed the cabin, which caught fire after police detonated smoke devices inside the structure, a law enforcement source told CNN.
The San Bernadino County Sheriff's Department says it believes a body is in the cabin, but investigators have yet to examine the cabin because it was still smoldering.
[Updated at 11:45 p.m. ET] The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is echoing the LAPD's refutation of reports that Dorner's body was found in the burned cabin, but it acknowledges investigators believe a body is there.
"We believe (the suspect) is still inside the cabin that caught fire," SBSD spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said.
Later, she said, "(Investigators) believe a body is in there," but that investigators still haven't been inside the cabin to look for one.
"It is too hot. (It's) still smoldering" and not safe to enter, Bachman said, adding that officials believe there still is live ammunition in the smoldering cabin.
"We believe that the person that barricaded himself inside the cabin and engaged in gunfire with our deputies ... is still inside there even though the building burned," she said.
[Updated at 11:13 p.m. ET] Los Angeles police are now contradicting media reports that a body was found in the cabin.
No such thing was found in the cabin, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told reporters moments ago, because cabin is still burning and is too hot to search.
The spokesman said the LAPD will continue to protect the LAPD officers that Dorner – accused of targeting police officers because he the LAPD fired him in 2008 – allegedly identified as potential threats in a letter made public last week.
[Updated at 10:40 p.m. ET] We're awaiting a news conference from authorities regarding today's events. Could happen quite soon.
[Updated at 10:02 p.m. ET] A body believed to be that of Christopher Dorner has been pulled from the burning cabin, multiple law enforcement sources tell CNN contributor Tom Fuentes. The sources say they were told this by LAPD.
Law enforcement personnel will conduct a forensic exam to identify the body, the sources say.
[Updated at 9:53 p.m. ET] Some details on the surviving deputy who was wounded in today's shootout at the cabin: That deputy still is in surgery and is expected to live, San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller says.
That deputy was one of two deputies who were wounded in a shootout at the cabin in Califorina's San Bernardino National Forest on Tuesday afternoon. The other deputy was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, authorities said.
The names of the deputies have not been released.
[Updated at 9:40 p.m. ET] The Los Angeles Police Department has scheduled a media briefing at midnight ET.
We're still waiting for details about the fire at the cabin, which began more than two hours ago.
[Updated at 9:14 p.m. ET] Earlier, we reported that U.S. Marshals Service district chief Kurt Ellingson told us a suspect tried to get out the back door of the cabin at some point today and was pushed back inside. But there are now conflicting reports about whether the suspect ever emerged.
Ellingson says authorities are not sure whether the suspect came out.

LImbaugh is the world's greatest purveyor of hate. His main job is to cause Americans to hate one another. Why should the word "liberal" be the first identifying word here? It's for mind manipulation, to associate the word with everything negative. No different than what to Hitler did for the Jews. public relations wise. Hell is too nice a place for this guy to go. The word 'liberal' becomes the new 'nigger', but is applied to a broader category of people, and stricter because of a vague broad political beliefs. Shame, on humanity, that this man get riches for spreading hate.

I used to work with a guy who looked just like Dorner with the short hair and beard. He was stocky and about the same size, about 6' 270 lbs with an Ice Cube looking snarl on his face most of the time. Nice guy that I was a little worried about the LAPD pushing his button. He was always armed when I knew him too.

Good liberal right there.

I came to realization today about liberals and conservatives, based upon Rush Limbaugh, and the writings of the killer Dormer. If he is a "liberal" as Limbaugh claims he was, the only thing about him I saw about him was him was that he always was offended by the use of the word "nigger", other ethnic slurs, and was upset about about the use of police force on a schizophrenic man. Therefore, the basic identifying trait of a conservative is the use and support of the word "nigger" and other ethnic slurs, and also tolerant being of police brutality. If giovanni_hotel, is correct, being a fan of Dubya Bush, (I assume he voted for him ), then voting for Republicans is not an identifier of being a conservative. My observation only confirms what many, if not most Black people feel. The ability to condemn others based upon race, or other ethnicities is the heart and soul of Conservatism in the USA today.

The ironic thing, is those condemning Conservatives, claim to be the protectors of Christian values, when it states clearly in the Bible numerous times that we should not judge others or be very careful. It's no wonder that many others look at this fact, and think the religion is bad, or at fault. No, they are hypocrites, perhaps the only category of people, Jesus criticized.

As for being liberal, in my view, the hallmark belief that defines us, is believing that given a level playing field of opportunities, including access to wealth/income, most communities would be essentially similar. I invite any person to respond, but especially those who would defend the conservative viewpoint.
