An automated tweet announcing my webcam show syndicated to facebook where I received the following message:

it would be nice if you could allow us to take advantage of your invite without paying, I am disabled vet living on fixed income, I guess this is what vets get for saving all the asses of free americans

This was my response:

I'm sorry you are upset that my webcam shows cost money. Webcam is my job and what pays my bills, so sadly I can't give that away for free. I am VERY grateful for the service you and other veterans have provided to all of us. I am one of the most approachable Transsexual pornstars in the United States chatting regularly to all my fans for free on social media including here on facebook. If you'd like to chat with me, message me here and we can gladly chat privately over facebook. And if you message me an address where I can send you an autographed picture, I'll be glad to send you one. - Wendy

What do you think... did I handle this well or could it have been handled better?

I think it's bullshit that this guy is complaining. True heroes rarely use their reputation to get shit for free. His disability and being a Vet might have nothing to do with each other.

What an ass.

I'll have to juice a few oranges to make room, Wendy.

I think that was handled extremely well. You are far kinder than I am. I wonder if that guy is really a vet or just someone looking for a freebie.

I didn't think he was in the right, but being an ass back just creates pissing matches.

I wonder that with folks begging on the street. Typically I carry a trail bar when wandering NYC. If someone begs me for money claiming to be homeless and hungry, I give them it. If they're a scammer it doesn't do jack shit for them. If they are legit, it provides some nourishment.

I think we're all in favor of deep pocketed corporations like Verizon and ConEd providing discounted services to handicapped vets. And who'd be against more generous government subsidies for men and women who have sacrificed their time and health for service to their country.
But it's not fair for this person to request a freebie from an independent business person struggling to turn a profit in a deeply troubled industry. It's like asking for a free bag of groceries from the local bodega guy who's putting in 100 hours a week to pay his taxes and take care of his family.

Wendy your courteous decline to his request was very appropriate and respectful.:iagree:

Makes perfect sense. I also give food rather than money whenever I can. Definitely goes a long way.

Going back to your "Am I too nice thread" I am beginning to rethink my answer.:) Anyone who expects something related to my work for nothing typically has their request ignored. I don't get into pissing matches either but your method is probably the better choice because you have left the door open for him to be a paying customer in the future. I know I get a ridiculous amount of stupid questions and people who don't like honest answers so if I wrote a response similar like this to everyone who asked for discounts or freebies, I wouldn't have any time to spend for actual paying clients.

I applaud your tact and sensitivity in this situation. Great response and easily above and beyond what 95% of us would have done.
