Online chat boards?

Does anyone remember chatting on AOL til all hours? I used to love that. Does anyone know of any communities like that anymore? I''m not talking about paying for live chat with a single person, I mean free chat boards where groups of people can talk together about issues like here but in real time, not post and reply, and then maybe split off for a private IM if they feel like it. I did a search here and found references to a "chat room" but couldn't find it.

Sorry gave mis-information.... Gay.com a month ago had chatrooms, I just logged in and its a totally different site. I researched and found out, they followed same move as Yahoo and got rid of chatrooms... that sucks, only reason I went on there. Now I will be deleting my profile!

Yea its a shame yahoo shut down its chat rooms. they were pretty cool. any1 recommend any msg service for chatting in rooms?
