View Full Version : Words Better Not Used Around Transsexual Ladies

I don't mean the derogatory words relating to porno. I try not to use words like special, unique, or anything that she would think I'm talking about her situation being transsexual. I know I make a lot of wrong assumptions but I try to error on the side of courtesy and respect.

Any advice from the ladies would be helpful. What words that guys use do you dislike or roll your eyes at?

I accidentally messed up really bad after taking a gal out to dinner. We went to a Barnes & Noble to look around. I waited in the DVD section while she looked at actual books. When she came over to check on me an innocent coincidence occurred. My stupid and overexcited self held up Blu-rays of Dog Day Afternoon and The Crying Game. I slowly lowered them after seeing the disappointed expression on her face. Still plead Not Guilty.

Awe, I don't think I'd of cared much. I really enjoy movies where there is a transgender character, just not the ones where they make us outlandish or put male performers as the actors.

But for me the ones I mentioned above are the top ones..

Those make me roll my eyes..I know the heart and sentiment is meant well..still annoys me.

There was no choice in it..just like you wake up every day and know your sex..I knew mine..so there was no other way.

My subconscious mind forced me to reach for them I think. As soon as I saw what I was holding I was horrified.

I have a bad habit perhaps of trying to pump too many positive thoughts into an escort's head before I leave. I like the girls I see but only see them when I can. My intention is to counterbalance the jerks I assume also visit them.

Dino Velvet

Here's a wrong assumption the other way. I see a really nice Indonesian GG and was visiting her one day. We've had a number of meetings already. She made a big deal out of putting this CD on while we were together. We started getting it on and everything was just fine, the music not being a distraction. As things get more serious and dirty I start hearing the plucking of banjos then a bunch of fellas howling about drinking beer. Still inside of her and continuing, we start to have a discussion about her musical selections and assumptions about me. She was backpedaling and apologetic but such a pro she never missed a beat either. I really kidded her the next time I saw her about it.

To be honest, I kind of find that to be pandering. It makes me uncomfortable when people around me feel like they have to walk on eggshells or do anything different than they would around a born-female. It feels othering, even if it's an attempt at conveying acceptance - true acceptance need not be explicitly stated.

Just don't use 'tranny,' or 'shemale,' or spell girl with a U (or put it in quotes), and we're all good.

Oh... and some people do deserve to be called 'sir.' I find it interesting that some girls have a clearly unpassable voice and get upset about being called that on the phone. It's like, umm, REALLY?!

I too would like to know the better terms around TS ladies, it is like the dilemma around someone who is black.

When with someone who is black, should I call them African American or is black acceptable. I know a lot of terms that are not acceptable, but it seems there is no term that is acceptable.

With the TS escorts I have been with I have been pleasantly surprised how they are feminine in mind, spirit, as well as looks (well except for that great part). It seems like nearly all I have met have no desire for sex with a woman and would cringe at the thought. Much like a straight guy is with men.

Nearly all TS have endured the journey of transitioning, but when we meet should we not talk about it? Is it OK to ask when the started to transition?

Is Tgirl ok, or is Transexual ? I like Shemale but I hear that is bad, what is correct?

I've sort of found peace on the terminology thing myself. Unless you're talking about sex, I don't see a need to make a distinction between a trans woman and a genetic female. Terms that 'other' people should be avoided. If they must be used, I prefer trans woman.

As to the other words, these days I try to let people call themselves whatever they want, even though quite honestly it does make my life as a trans woman more difficult as it serves to confuse as opposed to educate people about gender and gender issues.

If you want to be a 'shemale,' then be a shemale, but don't get upset if I don't offer you the same respect for your gender that I do a TS who self-identifies using a less sensational term or a genetic female. In my opinion, if you label yourself a 'shemale' for any purpose other than porn or escorting (and even then I still encourage girls to avoid it as I do), you're inviting people to see you only as a cheap fetish and you deserve the public image you accordingly receive.

And yes, there are girls who are not involved in porn or escorting who use this term as a descriptor for themselves. It boggles the mind.

You know what never gets you in trouble? Calling someone by their freakin' NAME. When I'm around fellow white people I never find it necessary to mention anyone's whiteness, same goes with black folks, same with trans, etc. Just call people by their names and if you find you have to second guess a topic, guess what? Keep your mouth shut. Before you know it you'll be making friends and having picnics.

Words better Not used around Transsexual Ladies:

"I'm unemployed"

This girl(transsexual)and I went out to a movie then to dinner and it seemed like we were really hitting it off. Talking about the usual things people talk about on a first date. (I payed for the movie)

Well, as it is with MOST women, the curiosity about a man's income/financial responsibility came up.

Her- "So, what do you do for a living?"
Me (not unemployed, just trying to see what reaction I would get)- "Well, I'm unemployed. But..." (before I could finish..)
Her- rolls eyes, uses napkin to wipe her lips, gets up out of the chair and walks out on me
me- seen enough, paid the bill and left as well

So, moral of the story. NEVER tell a transsexual woman you're unemployed, that's a dealbreaker for sure. They have probably dealt with alot of guys that don't have money, and they don't want to pay for the man as it is still considered in most situations that the man has to/should pay for the first date(s).

Did the same with a gg, and she actually let me finish and said
Her- "well hopefully you find something, I've been there and done that, it sucks being Unemployed" "If you want, i'll pay the bill"
Me- "No, it's ok I'm actually good at saving money and can live off savings for a while so I'm good"
Her- "Ah ok, how sweet"

I know it seems like playing games, and I was lying through my ass about being unemployed, god bless I had(have) a job during those dates. But I was just trying to get a feel about certain reactions. It says alot about a person.

Ladies and gents, don't give me that crap about the game playing and trivia. Almost everyone does it and women ask stupid little stuff just to see if you're the future husband or future friend zone guy forever.

I have always believed this, Live like a girl, Look like a girl you are a girl. I hate to narrow it down to which bathroom you use...if you use the ladies room in public on a regular basis, it doesn't matter what sex of genitals you have, you are a girl.

My problem is I get to know some girls enough I start mixing up their real name with their work name. This one I see often uses her sister's real name as her work name. Be kinda awkward to mix them up when I know better.

That's so relative, though. There are so many chicks out there that prefer all the little pet words and nicknames. I usually just stick to using proper pronouns and avoid terms that infer she's anything but a woman until I start hearing that vocabulary come out of her mouth. Even then, what's there to talk about? Like, how often do trans-issues really need to come up in conversation anyway? I'd assume most transsexuals or transgendered women don't want to deal with guys that can't drop the topic.
