Instagram can now sell your pics?

Do you use Instagram? Just making sure everyone sees this- you own your Instagram pics but they can sell them, according to their latest TOS.

Instagram have now stated that this is a misinterpretation of their wording due to their choice of confusing language which will be corrected to make it clear that it is not their intention to sell photos.

Thanks Rod. But does it qualify the situation beyond any doubt?

People's behaviour on the internet is "infantile" in the simplest and non-pejorative definition of the word. They will blithely do things on the web that they'd consider very carefully in any other sphere. Handing over your images to a third party without any prior agreement on future ownership or use is a prime example.

No surprise that this happened after Facebook took control of Instagram.

Sounds like they thought better of their decision once people got pissed. But so far they have no new language to replace the language they consider "confusing."

So, is the risk worth waiting until the January 16 deadline to delete your account? As it stands, at that point your photos could be theirs to use in perpetuity.

I thought it was kind of common knowledge that in the fine print of most picture posting sites, it says something akin to "oh, and by the way, we can use anything you post for promotional purposes, or etc." ... I don't really see anything new here. One of the reasons why I don't post up my pictures on very many social networking or picture sharing sites.
